[ censored ] whites, [ censored ] trump! >> reporter: four people are facing charges for beating a mentally disabled man. >> it's sickening. >> reporter: the victim was a classmate of one of the suspects and may have gone with him voluntarily. he was with the suspects for 24 to 48 hours and had been reported missing. >> images in the video put on display brazenness of the offenders who assaulted the victim and then broadcast it for the world to see. >> reporter: during the attack, the suspects all blacks shouted racial slurs and mentioned the name donald trump. but police believe the victim, who is white, was targeted because he is disabled not because of race. >> i been a cop for 28 years and i have seen things that you shouldn't see in a lifetime but it still amazes me how you still see things that you just shouldn't. >> reporter: police say of aattack, suspects let the victim go. officers found him wandering the streets and took him to a hospital. >> it took most of the night for him to calm down enough to be able to talk

roxana saberi reports. >> reporter: laurie lawrence knows how critical it is to give blood. that's why she makes sure to donate every two months. >> one of my daughters had surgery, a number of surgical procedures when she was little, and she needed blood at that time. i know that it's just a necessary thing. >> reporter: the red cross is hoping more people get the message and give that life-saving gift right away. the nation is facing a severe blood shortage this winter. >> as you would expect, we have to cancel blood drives because of inclement weather. but this year we have canceled 300 blood drives since december 1st. >> reporter: donations have also taken a hit because people get busy over the holidays. the agency says centers are now struggling to keep up with demand. blood and platelets are being sent to hospitals faster than donations are coming in. the red cross is extending hours at many of its sites over the next few weeks to try to bring in more donors. >> we really would deeply, deeply appreciate a blood donation. we need every kind of blood type. >> reporter: 2
