you hear first, roxanna, and then, john, you get a call.e a sense of disbelief and you realize she's been caught up in this horrific incident, gabrielle giffords has been shot, presumed dead, other people have been gunned down. what are you thinking when this is all unfurling? >> i was thinking it was a nightmare and i was going to wake up. i kept on pinching myself and hoping that it wasn't real, it was that horrendous. it was horrible. days after that i would go to her room and hope to find her in her room. obviously, you know that it is real and you just, day by day, you just try to cope. we had a deep faith in god, so we prayed a lot. and that helped us. >> i interviewed mark kelly recently, gabrielle giffords' husband. a remarkable man in many ways. they were saying how desperate they feel for those who lost their lives, particularly for christina, she was so young. she would have been 10 in november. -- september. >> september 11th. >> he was saying, really, it's hard to reconcile what happened. have you been able to get to that point

she is roxanna green. she joins me live from pasadena.re speaking because christina was honored on this float as part of the rose bowl parade this morning, and this all has to do with donating life. and the fact that i read, roxanna, that you and christina, you all just happened to talk about organ donation just before christm christmas. >> yes, we did. my mom, unfortunately, passed away two years ago, and we donated my mom's organs. everyone in my family is an organ donor. so we talked about it frequently in our household. and my children, dallas and christina taylor, both wanted to be organ donors. so, without a doubt, after she passed away, it was such a horrific day and unfortunate tragedy, but, without a doubt, my husband and i knew immediately that we were going to donate her organs and tissues. >> so it's just amazing at 9 years of age, christina said to you, yes, she would be an organ donor. little did you know of course the horrific news that would ensue. then when the decision came for you to donate, was that a difficult one? >>

unfortunately, two years ago roxanna's mother passed away from brain aneruysm.ly, we talked about being an organ donor. actually, we involved our kids a little bit in that discussion. and, you know, just a little bit. they were young. but wanted them to hear about it. and kristina was well aware of that and thought it was a good idea. we donated when your mother passed, we donated her organs. >> you set up kristina taylor-green memorial foundation. tell me about that. >> the foundation we set up a mission statement for the foundati foundation. we thought it was a good way to -- a lot of people across the country, we were a little bit surprised, to be honest with you, about all the attention that kristina got, we were just trying to get over the pain ourselves. but moneys came in. people, well wishers, you know, sent us a lot of donations. we thought well, we're going to start this foundation in kristina's name. we helped out her elementary school with smart boards in every room so that all the kids would have a equal access to that technology. we donated some to

and roxanna is here right now. we met in the aftermath of that tragedy. such a special girl. tell us what you remember most about her. what sticks with you? >> she was an amazing little girl. beautiful inside and out. she was a true giver. she was fearless. >> she did everything. >> she did everything. and she did everything really, really well. she was an amazing athlete. and she wanted to learn more about government. she had just been elected to student council. >> that's why she was going to meet the congresswoman that day. >> she wanted to learn as much as she could so she could give back to her community. she was amazing in every way. she was an extraordinary little girl, beyond her years. >> she was involved in everything. and the title of the book, "as good as she imagined," was the title in that speech president obama gave. one of the things you write about in the book, you were getting all this attention, all this national focus. and then, it actually made it harder for you. >> it did make it harder at first because we're very shy and private peo

roxanna green joins us this morning. your book is terrific. it's called "as good as she imagine imagined." i have to imagine with you for the one-year anniversary how hard is it for you to deal with the day? >> it's been very challenging. but, you know, my faith has got me through it and my friends and family and a lot of praying. >> i want you to tell me a little bit about kristina taylor. honestly, you -- it's almost unbelievable what a remarkable kid she was at such a young age. she was into sports. she was into politics. tell me a little bit about her. >> well, she was an extraordinary child. she was an exceptional child in every way. she was beyond her 9 years. very what your for her age. she was very patriotic. loved her country. she really wanted to give back, make a difference in her community. and she was aware of people that were less fortunate and she always wanted to do charity work and to help those that weren't as blessed as she was. >> where did that come from? and i can see you getting upset as you talk to me and i'm sorry. but
