roz plater is joining us live. what is happening now? roz: we are right on the district and silver spring line. this is a four-story complex only silver the incident commander said what happened was right after 9:00 tonight, two people called 911 reporting they felt sick. when they got here, the symptoms were consistent with somebody that it carbon monoxide poisoning. they sounded the alarm and evacuated the building. the sister in those folks did not want to go to the hospital, so they were treated on the scene. right now firefighters are doing a thorough search of the apartments, one by one, taking air quality measurements and checking door heaters and pipes and also running fans in the building. if the building checks out at some point, they hope to get people back into their apartments. we are told it will probably be another hour to hour and a half before they know if they can do that. roz plater, abc 7 news. leon: thank you, roz. new at 11:00, making metro commute safer. all of this coming after a hearing about the death in the smok

roz plater is live at the search going on for the suspects. they have a big crime scene down there. roz: a very large crime scene, the entire block roped off, a bunch of investigators on the scene. this is video from earlier. three people shot, all taken to the hospital. folks who live here said that one of them appeared to be in critical condition, but no confirmation from the police of that. i spoke to remain off camera said he was walking home from work when he heard gunshots rang out. he said everybody around him, including himself, began running. they said they heard as many as 30 shots fired. one of the people which shot rain inside a nearby apartment building for cover. folks who live here say there was another shooting a couple blocks from here last night at about the same time, starting a couple blocks from here, ending up at the apartment here on edgewood street. right now the police say it is still early on the investigation and they do not have answers why. right now we do not have a lookout as to who they are looking for, but a number of police investigators on the scene

roz plater has more on the disturbing charges. roz: david davis is a seven-year metro police officer. after searching his woodbridge home, prince william county police charged him with taking indecent liberties with a child. we are not identifying his roommate's who say they are stunned. >> this is very surprising. >> i cannot believe it, to be honest. he is a mentor for the kids in the neighborhood. roz: the police say that he used a cell phone app tango me to chat with the 14-year-old girl. davis used it to expose himself and select inappropriate images from the teen. the tour said, "given the deeply disturbing nature of the charges, the employee involved has been suspended without pay effective immediately." his roommates say that is what is so hard to believe because davis loved being a police officer. >> when i moved in he said i'm a police officer and i cannot do anything to jeopardize my job. >> i cannot see him jeopardizing himself like this. roz: roz plater, abc 7 news. kellye: a federal appeals court upheld bob mcdonnell'

roz plater has the latest. roz: a lot of unanswered questions. it happened at the anna fairmount in church, a korean church with a living area and a counseling center. it happened during a prayer service at 7:45 tonight. they couple was stabbed multiple times, the man pronounced dead on the scene, the woman flown to maryland shock trauma in critical condition. she is on her way to surgery her condition upgraded to serious but stable condition. the suspect is a 30-year-old man who would been staying at the church the past week. he is also from northern virginia. he claims the second 911 call, he said i'm waiting here. he is in custody. we don't know what percent potato this, but this is how the officers describe the situation. officer: my investigators told me it was a gruesome scene pretty bloody. the stab and slashing injuries were severe. just a bad, tragic scene unfortunate situation. roz: the evidence technicians are on scene, trying to process the scene and pick up all the evidence they can. they also have detectives on site trying to interv

roz plater continues team coverage. horace, the power is back on in this part of northeast still about 100 homes without power. it was several hours in the heat , and the folks who live in these homes were worried this might be a long, hot night. we arrived at about 8:30 p.m., the street lights out businesses temporarily closed, resident sitting outside because their homes are dark on the inside. the power is out and so was the air-conditioning, and it's frustrating. >> the hottest day, it breaks down? come on pepco, get it together. roz: the daytime temperatures have been brutal, the sun bearing down. at this house fire in upper marlboro sunday morning, a firefighter was sidelined by dehydration. he has since recovered. but hundreds of d.c. residents had the right idea, some going to the pool. >> i went for a walk earlier in the day and got overheated. roz: the city decided to keep the polls open until 8:00 at night, a very popular decision with the parents and their kids. >> what else could you ask for on a 90-somethi

roz plater, what more can you tell us? roz: scary moments aboard the flights. i spoke with a woman who was on the plane. she said a very scary time, about 20 minutes from the airport. the airplanes have both landed on the ground in those passengers have been attended to. we are told the trouble was with two inbound united airlines flights that requested medical assistance because of severe turbulence. one was from san francisco, one from san juan, puerto rico. the flight from san juan reported there were individuals in need of attention. we are told they are receiving services from emergency medical services. all other flights continued as normal. the turbulence forecast map you can see why they ran into trouble. there was severe turbulence over the north carolina, maryland, virginia corridor. most people were strapped into their seats, but one woman was injured who was standing up waiting to get into the bathroom. she was not sure how severe the injury was to the woman, but she was one of the people being treated by the medical personnel. five people getting s

roz plater has the message being delivered tonight. roz: leon, the homicides are happening in every quadrant of the city, more than 70 so far this year, many of them unsolved. tonight, this one community stood up and asked for help. between 9:00 friday night and 3:30 saturday morning, six people were gunned down in the district, three of them died. not far from one of the murder sites, religious and community leaders, and d.c. police walk the streets monday night, taking a stand against violence. many of the city's murders remain unsolved and marchers are asking the community to become part of the solution. >> we need more than please, we need the community to come out. we want to get this stuff out of the community. >> let them see they can come forward. roz: the march ended at 28 then naylor road, the site where a 15-year-old was shot and killed getting off a metro bus. they are trying to keep kids off the streets. >> chasing the kids, running with the police, trying to catch them. >> a lot of people just want to keep the peace. it's

his story is gaining national traction and roz plater sat down with him and spoke to him tonight. fairfax police are saying this is not so cut and dried? roz: the fairfax county police say a they were responding to a call for service. the veteran is asking why the officers had to respond to guns drawn without asking questions. the story is creating controversy and prompted fairfax county police chief to respond on twitter. >> my risk of violent death went up hundred percent that night. roz: sunday morning, june 14, he said he was asleep in the model unit of his alexandria apartment building while his unit was being repaired. a neighbor thought he was a squatter and called the police. he woke up with three fairfax county police officers with guns drawn. >> they swept from the inside with their guns drawn, their bills aimed at me. one of them handcuffed me with my face down. roz: he eventually convince the officers he was supposed to be there and they let him go. he wrote about his experience on social media and an op-ed piece for the washington post. in a surprising move, the fairfa

roz plater, abc 7 news. kellye: a prince george's county firefighter recovering from minor burns after he battle displays in howard county. 50 firefighters from the jurisdictions were called out to the townhouse in laurel. the family was not home when the fire started. the injured firefighters expected to recover. prince george's police are looking for whatever shot a man to death outside of a house party in manassas. they were called to the house party at 1:00 this morning. they found a man from waldorf suffering from a gunshot. he was rushed to the hospital where he died. one neighbor who did not want to be identified said he called the police to complain about the loud party. >> people throw very large parties. kellye: the police have yet to identify a suspect or motive. every ward of up to $25,000 -- a reward for up to $25,000 is being offered for an arrest and conviction. d.c. police are hoping this new surveillance video will help catch a killer, taken during a drive-by shooting two weeks ago on e stre

roz plater, abc 7 news. kellye: new developments from anne arundel county, the police have arrested a woman for allegedly banding -- abandoning her baby girl on the side of the road. they charged her with child neglect and recklessness endangerment. she called 911 this morning saying she was the mother of a girl found along the road in pasadena. the child was supposed to be with the father, she said. detectives determined that mcclary was the one who left the girl and drove off. >> it look like a child seat. we were wondering if it was a child in the seat or a seat in the street. as we got close to it, there was a child. the child was not crying, but the child was in the seat. kellye: the little girl is in good condition and in the custody of protective services. today, an emotional end to the world police and fire celebratory event, turning into a memorial for officers lost. roz plater has the story. roz: the school has said little other than releasing a statement saying they are cooperating with the investigation. montgomery county police want to know if there are other accusers. jose vallen's willa -- valen zuela turned himself in this afternoon, houston having inappropriate contact with an 11-year-old girl at the holton -arms summer camp. parents were stunned. >> very surprising and upsetting. i want to know if a teacher has been arrested. roz: the police say that valenzuela is known to the children as jolly. he has worked as a summer camp counselor and magic teacher since 2012. the 11-year-old said the unwanted touching happened between june 30 and july 3. some of it occurred backstage. the school said, we are cooperating fully with the authorities and cannot share any further information. we take these types of allegations very seriously. the police are trying to figure out if there might be more accusers. >> any parents who have had experience or any children with inappropria

roz plater, i'm sure some people are saying finally? roz: indeed, the cold case investigators have been working this for years logging 16,000 hours, carrying out 50 search warrant, conducting more than 100 interviews. to make him a first look at the documents that outline what they found. the search warrant's were issued in january for the property in taylor mountain, bedford county, virginia, longing to the family of lloyd lee welch jr. the suspect in the disappearance of the two girls. according to the affidavit investigator said that he showed up unexpectedly in the spring of 1975 with two green army style duffel bags that weighed as much as 70 pounds. the bags had the odor decomposition. will spurn the bags over several days. witnesses said that the odor had the smell of cremation. officers found part fragments among other items. at a news conference wednesday investigators announced welch has been charged with first degree felony murder. >> based upon the totality of the evidence revealed by investigative efforts of law enforcement

roz plater, abc 7 news. jeannette: quite a mystery thanks, roz. the police are investigating three separate homicides in the district. the violence was spread out in northeast d.c., foreman shot late friday night. 18-year-old ryan perkins died at the hospital. in southeast d.c., a 25-year-old died after a shooting on 13th place. in northwest, a shooting at 13th and riggs street killed charles douglas of district heights. no arrests have been made in any shootings. today, the police were canvassing a neighborhood where he fits security guard was fatally shot early yesterday. guards were sitting in their personal cars at the central north apartments with some of the open fire. 26-year-old adrian canard of northwest washington died at the hospital. the other guard is recovering. the police believe the men were targeted and are searching for the gunman. from in the terror rampage in tennessee. the suspected gunman and was arrested earlier this year. according to the arrest report, mohammed yusuf abdullah was stopped for a traffic violation in april. t

roz plater is following the story. this happened in a well-known area? roz: yeah, adams morgan. normally friday and saturday nights, there is a large police presence, especially the upper end of 18 straight. after the attack, some folks say perhaps they need more officers at the lower end. let's show you where this happened. according to the police documents, the northern virginia couple had stopped to eat on the steps near the busiest or section of 18th florida avenue, and u street northwest at 1:00 this morning. a group walked up and made a movement towards the male victim as if they were going to grab something. when the victim confronted him, they noticed they were with about a dozen men and women. they then began punching the man in his head and face. when the female tried to intervene, they punched her in the face. the group knocked them to the ground and began kicking and stomping. a third suspect robbed the woman of her purse, then they took off running down 18th street. we spoke with people who live in the area that said the attack says it has them on edge. >> it's a cr
