nbc bay area's roz plater joins us with details. >> reporter: state investigators hope shutting down this illegal operation will make a big differen difference. investigators say these boxes contain the nearly 50,000 pounds of illegal fireworks, some seized in the bay area just before the july 4 holiday. >> four semi truck trailers full of what are essentially weapons of wildfire, not to mention huge potential disturbances to our community. we have to put our foot down and say that's enough. >> seven people were arrested in the sting. investigators say it started with a tip from a concerned citizen. >> law enforcement officers have reason to believe these suspects have been illegally importing, transporting, storing, distributing and selling these products, dangerous fireworks throughout california. with indications that this practice has gone on for at least 30 years. >> investigators say jack schroll was arrested twice. no one answered the door at his walnut creek home. a neighbor said he spotted atf agents carrying out boxes about ten days ago. cal fire says fireworks each year st
