gloria, will this play as humane or not what vote rs want in south carolina?> i don't think it's what voters want in south carolina. i think this is a very conservative state on immigration as you said, it's got a very, very tough law. newt gingrich is now trying to present himself as the conservative in this race against mitt romney, whom he calls the massachusetts moderate. but on the issue of immigration, romney is way to the right of newt gingrich and this is an issue that comes up at a lot of town halls in this state. people care about it. they care a lot about it in particular when the economy is bad. you've got 9.9% unemployment here and in tough economic time, people resent, if you will, immigration more because they feel that they're losing their jobs. >> that's an interesting point and i'm wondering your view of how this will play. there are some counties in south carolina, i've been looking at the unemployment rate. you've got 16, 18% in some counties in that state. people are hurting. >> the politics of immigration are incredibly complicated and it

they make up about a third of gop vote rs and generally open o change. and the rest as you see there. now, that mix in mind, the first four states, as we can see them all drawn out here at the bottom here have differed in many big ways. very conservative first as we were talking about, 47% according to the exit polls in 2008. of the voters in iowa were of this group. we move on there to the area of new hampshire. we look at the numbers in new hampshire. that dipped to 21% as did santorum finishing fifth. for south carolina, we have the middling 34%, and in florida, 27%. santorum, paul, and perry will not have the very conservatives to help them in the later states. now to somewhat conservatives, the lion share of gop voters. they vary very little from 37% in iowa to the rest at 34%. you see here, that favors romney and huntsman too to some extent. another way to see the contrast, religious conservatives. santorum thrives in iowa, 60% of those voters think they were evangelicals. new hampshire, though, the dip down to 23%. but then you've got to look at s
