katy russell, as you may know, is just 24 years old. her father, an ivy league educated doctor, her mother, a nurse. katy's high school teachers say she was a talented artist, a nice girl, a good student. her high school yearbook entry lists her plan as college and the peace corps. she was attending college when she met tamerlan tsarnaev at a nightclub, we're told. she apparently converted from christianity to islam for him and the couple married several years ago. now she's in the middle of a terrorism investigation, although prosecutors have not yet charged her with anything. catherine herridge on fox top story live in washington. what more do we know about the communications between katy russell, the wife, and the suspect? >> two source familiar with the investigation tell fox news katherine russell communicated with her husband after the bombing. one source said it included at least one phone call, with the second source describing an e-mail, possibly containing an attachment which included a surveillance photo released by the f.b.i

katherine russell seems to be sestancing herself from her deceased husband. she no longer uses her married ement nd she released a statement through her attorney saying she doesn't want to claim his body. instead, she wants his family to do so. and, scott, her lawyers insist she had no knowledge of the bomb plot and that she mourns the loss of life. >> pelley: many leads to follow, don. thank you very much. rre f.b.i. said today that it broke up a planned terror attack in western minnesota. agents raided a mobile home on friday and found molotov cocktails, pipe bombs, and at least one assault rifle. the man who lives there, buford rogers, is a felon and is being thld without bail this evening esr allegedly possessing a firearm. a neighbor told the minneapolis star tribune that rogers is a white supremacist. late today we got word that an la for force officer was arrested for sexual assault but the remarkable thing is the accused man was the chief of the air force sexual assault prevention unit. david martin is following this breaking story. >> reporter: this

six years okay russell was also under police scrutiny but for very different reasons. then 18, she was arrested for shoplifting $67 worth of clothing. her attorney said she played no role in the plot and she has not been named a suspect but investigators question whether it's possible the brothers constructed bombs without her knowledge. surviving suspect dzhokar tsarnaev told them the bombs were built in the apartment his brother and russell shared. and investigators have found small amounts of bomb residue there. in addition, phone records show russell and tamerlan tsarnaev spoke after the bombings but there is no recording of that conversation. the f.b.i. also found al qaeda's online magazine "inspire" as well as other radical islamicist material on russell's computer, although it's unclear whether she was accessing that material or her husband was. as to what caused her husband's death, there continues to be uncertainty. his death certificate listed gunshot wounds and blunt trauma to the head and torso which occurred during this gun battle. some officers have said

authorities questioning russell trying to determine the nature of that call. what was said and why didn't she notify authorities? this has three friends and classmates of tamerlan's brother dzhokhar are now under arrest. two seen here with the younger tsarnaev on a trip to new york's times square, accused of obstructing justice. the third man accused of lying to authorities. according to the criminal complaints when federal authorities released video of the bombing suspects, the three men saw it on cnn and immediately thought one of the suspects looked like their friend dzhokhar. he texted tsarnaev that he looked like the person on tv. tsarnaev text back, lol. the accused three allegedly met at tsarnaev's dorm room where they received another text from him. and they were about to leave, if you need something in my room, take it. according to authorities, he never thought he would see his friend alive again. and in the dorm the three found fireworks in a backpack with the black powder emptied out, vaseline and a laptop. authorities allege they took the evidence

russell's attorney says she continues to cooperate with authorities. and authorities also have more questions for dzhokhar tsarnaev's three friends from the university of massachusetts dartmouth, now facing charges of obstructing justice, and lying to authorities. one of whom led authorities to tsarnaev's laptop, which could provide more clues. and as the investigation continues, so, too, does the recovery for victims. like mark, who lost a leg in the bombing. the other leg shattered. his arms riddled with shrapnel. >> i was scared because it was dark. i thought i was dead. i thought it was over. >> reporter: he says he draws strength every day from a photo of his 5-year-old son. >> stuck me with another needle or they cut me or they did something, when everything change, i look at that picture. that's what got me through it. >> reporter: so again, john, the original plan was to have the bombs explode on the fourth of july. the boston marathon plan ended up happening according investigators just a few days before the marathon actually took place. this

deb, investigators also have some very, very serious questions for kathrine russell, the widow of tamerlan tsarnaev. i understand they're particularly curious about a conversation she had with him after his photo was released in connection with the boston bombing. what's the latest on that front? >> well, what we can tell you is the fbi were able to determine right after the pictures were released, kathrine russell reached out to her husband by cell phone. there is a record of the call between the two phones. it's not clear what they talked about, but the fbi has been coming down pretty seriously on kathrine russell trying to find out who she knew, what tamerlan's associations were, certain things that really a wife would or should know. the indication is is that they want to see what she says and whether in fact she could potentially turn state's evidence. that would be key because she knows so much of where he was, how long he was there for, items like that. but they are looking at that phone call very closely, wolf. >> i'm sure they are. we'll see what happens on that front, deb. thanks
