russell nearly flat but the dow transports have 39 points added to that index. all of these indexes have gained ground in three of the past four sessions. what's going on in the psychology of the investors' mind? investors blowing past news that more americans than expected signed up for first-time jobless benefits last week. we got that number out this morning. the economic storm clouds on the other side of the atlantic. zero growth in the eurozone, france broke it out. looked bad. as bad as growth looked, germany's gdp contracted. 2/10%. not good when that's been the economic engine. but check this! european markets did not get hit on the news. the ftse up half percent. the dax of germany seeing a gain of 26 points. oil prices, perhaps the concern, the economy slowed down. brent is down by 2%, look at light sweet crude. not so much the percentage loss which is 2%, now the price is below $96 a barrel. standing at $95.56. let's check on gold to see if there is flight to quality. not at all, at $1,314 a troy ounce, we have gold pretty much flat for the session. e

russell 2000 fell more than 6%, that's it's largest monthly decline since may of 2012.g from small to large cap stock due to worries about valuations. ashley: need one of those go pro cameras to jump off that chart. does that mean there's value in the sector now? joining us is craig hodges, hodges small cap fund portfolio co-manager. what do you say, craig, have these small caps fallen far enough that we should be, perhaps, jumping in and picking up some bargains? >> oh, you know, we feel like here at hodges capital there's always opportunities in small caps just by nature. i mean, you're going to have, you know, it's been such a great place to be the last, you know, five years or so, and so you're going to have, you know, you're going to have because of the smaller nature, you're going to have a little more volatility. it's a more inefficient part of the market. but there's always new things happening, there's always new emerging companies, and we see more opportunities in small cap than we've seen in quite a while. we've got a lot of cash, and we're using every day li

some indexes like the russell that is pretty, russell 2000, pretty near correction territory now, well into double digits on decline. david: jeff cleveland, we talked about the sweet spot of the jobs numbers. let's talk about a sour spot that we encountered and that was wages. wage growth was not what we thought it might be. we had hints perhaps wage growth was coming up, when we got the fed report. not so much today. when wages don't beat inflation, isn't that a problem? >> yeah. that's a huge problem, david. i agree. 2% growth in rages versus year ago is very low. we think the fed wants to see 3 1/2, 4% nominal wage growth. if i'm earning money and not increasing at faster rate of prices of things i'm buying, that is ultimately not good for growth. i think we can both agree on that, david. so that is the real sour spot. i think that is also the one line item that will give the fed an excuse to wait longer to move to higher interest rates. as long as we're at 2% on average hourly earnings, fed fund rate is not going anywhere in your opinion. liz: so we go back to bill baruch now in th

joining us now against lieutenant general russel honore. technical difficulty there before the break. i'm glad you can hear me now. the question i was asking before we went to break is this -- you suggested someone else should perhaps come on the ground to help the situation frismt your experience, who would be the best person to do that? >> i think somebody designated by the governor or senior elected official who can work with the captain and work on communicating and going through the community and getting people's concerns and pulling that together in a strategic communications message that describes to the people that this thing -- that justice will be done in a courtroom and the political issues in the community will be solved in the ballot box. for the time being we've got to address the concerns of people. if you look at this curfew tonight, the people continue to push back on the armored vehicles, yet each night there's a problem the armored vehicles show up. why are they doing that? they're still doing things that they don't have
