but today we had the honor of honoring the memory of educator ruth ikolaner who we mourned her passingaugust 7th of this year. but today we had the opportunity to celebrate her life, at the golden gate park with a celebration of her life. it was a truly remarkable event. students performed, students sang a number of community members and family members spoke of ruth's life. and the universal feeling at the end of event is that we all walked away knowing her better than we had ever known her. for those of you who are not familiar with ruth, she was one of california's top sculptures in the first japanese-american sculpture in the nation to achieve recognition in a very male-dominated discipline. we will remember her of being the name sack of the arts of public high school here in san francisco, but she will also be remembered for extraordinary sculptures and several in the bay area including the japanese and american memorial and the an draoe afountain in san francisco. she was born in los angeles in 1926 and she and her family were sent to an internment camp alocalsing about ever long
