ryan ribiera. new data released overnight shows the number of children infected with covid-19 rose dramatically in the last few months. kids now make up 10% of all cases nationwide. it appears adolescents are of much bigger concern than younger kids. what do parents need to know? >> the encouraging side of things, it showed us more evidence that children are less likely to get severe manifestations from covid. only 1.5% of children with covid needed hospitalization, less than .01% of them died from it. i think these are encouraging numbers. on the other side of things, there was some discouraging things here, too. 78% of the children who died did not have identifiable pre-existing conditions. prior to this, they were healthy prior to getting covid. i think that's a little higher than we've seen in the past. >> the trump administration is rolling out 150 million rapid tests to help schools across this country reopen. what do we know about how these tests work, and what do you think their impact will

ryan ribiera. the cdc has created more confusion after issuing new guidance about how the coronavirus spreads through the air, and then retracting the guidance, saying the update was posted by mistake. walk us through this. >> it's very frustrating, certainly. all of the indications, though, that i have seen point towards it actually being an error in the scientific review process, not some type of more nefarious political motivation. but unfortunately it really is a bad topic to make a mistake like that on the degree to which airborne transmission is an issue with coronavirus, hotly debated since the very beginning. obviously the implications of airborne transmission is a bigger concern than we thought, really significant. so it's just unfortunate to send mixed messages around this. we've gotten mixed messages before from federal departments, and it really doesn't help. >> we're learning more about how a potential covid-19 vaccine will be distributed, and we're hearing children won't be eligible r
