ryan curry has a look at why they fear many could face eviction in a matter of days. >> people are not going to get the money in time. they can get evicted. reporter: karen hernandez and her staff are spending the entire workday fill out applications for the emergency rental assistance program. she says appointments are booked to the middle of october, which means they can't help some people who need immediate rent assistance. she says many of those people are now seeing eviction notices. >> we have landlords who have come to monument impact and say, if i don't get my money as soon as the moratorium ends, i'm going to evict them. i'm just waiting. reporter: the county voted to lift the moratorium. they claim there are funds available to occupants so they can avoid being evicted. but the application is not easy to fill out. >> applications can take up to 45 minutes depending on the documentation you have available, depending on whether the person has an email. a lot of people, especially low income and immigrant communities, don't have access to emails. reporter: monument impact was one

ama: ryan curry spoke with two organizations about what goes into the process of helping new refugees lot of challenges. ryan: a congressman met in concord as they prepared to aid around 60 refugees his office helped relocate to the bay area. members of the centers say once they learned about the evacuations, they started getting many resources together. >> they left the country with nothing but what they were wearing. we plan to provide everything for them. reporter: that means they need volunteers, like hannah, whose parents were once refugees from afghanistan 13 years ago. she says being able to help other refugees was very important to her. >> i know what the refugees coming here are going through, and i know it was hard for my mom to come to a new country not knowing the language, so i have empathy for them. reporter: her volunteer work is focused on helping infants. she says she wants to make the families feel as comfortable as hers was decades ago. >> we do not know what to do, but we are just trying to do everything we can to help them and make them feel comfortable coming her

ryan curry introduces you to to bay area organizations that are ready to help people rise from the ashes. ryan: wildfires continue to devastate northern california. hundreds of structures have already burned, leaving many without a home. >> after losing everything i worked for and everything from all these years, it is gone. everybody says it is so irreplaceable. no. a lot of it is not. ryan: to local organizations and to donate thousands to support those affected by the wildfires. a director of community investment for the women's foundation in california says they gave over $200,000 last year to local agencies battling fires. she says they plan to do the same this year. >> we are hoping to make similar investments this year if not more so both providing direct relief but also providing support organizations that are doing this long-term structural solutions. ryan: most of their money goes to local shelters and programs to help those who lost their homes in the fire. >> our primary goal is to get the money out the door to communities that are closest. those that have direct access to co

ryan curry was at remembrance tonight in san francisco where families were joined by the police chief. reporter: pictures and heavy hearts. it was a somber evening at city hall as dozens remembered the lives of murder victims. attendees say this year feels more emotional with the amount of homicides happening. >> every time i hear a homicide that happens, whether it be in san francisco or any other state, it hits home. reporter: her son was killed in 2014. she came out to honor her son and the others who died. she does not anyone else to live in fear. >> enough is enough. >> we have lost so much already and it has to stop. reporter: the bay area has seen numerous homicides this year, especially in oakland were last week the city reported its 100th homicide. local leaders say they want the violence to stop and everyone in the bay area to come together. >> work together not only to make survivors whole,but to reduce and prevent these types of incidents moving forward. reporter: he said one of the hardest parts of his job is telling families about the loved ones they have lost. >> after
