let's bring in our political panel, ryan lizza is with me. mrs. with us, a. scott boldin, the former chair of the washington, d.c. democratic party and a clinton supporter. on the other side, scottie nell hughes, cnn political commentator: ryan, let me get to you before we get to the partisan divide over all of it. where does this fall compared to romney's 47% comment or obama talking about supporters -- republican supporters clinging to their guns and religion? where does this fall in that line of gaves, if you will? >> well, i mean i think both of those were big issues for -- the obama thing about the bitter clingersb was a big issue for conservatives. the romney thing about the 47% was a big thing for liberals. but i don't think either comment had the consequences that people seem to suggest in hindsight. it did not cost romney the election as some people argued after that election. if you look at the polls after the 47% comment, they didn't really change. that being said, look, i think as we were talking about previously, i think that republicans will -- s

cnn political commentator ryan lizza, he's the washington kornt for the "new yorker" magazine. david, talk a little about what we anticipated. earlier this morning, weren't going to get much during the "dr. oz show" getting. listening to dr. gupta, not what john mccain did when he let medical correspondents including dr. gupta spend hours with his record and talking to physicians? >> an extraordinary circumstance because he had cancer, melanoma and allowed a thorough review. something specific to cancer which could end his life and that made sense. there's a basic foundation of transparency required of any presidential candidate that both candidates ought to adhere to. a reality show nature, which we've come to expect of donald trump, in terms of these kinds of slow reveals. i think some of it is just silly. you know, there should be a thorough scrubbing of this kind of information. the public has a right to know. it is also true of hillary clinton, who should be more transparent about her records, and about leveling with her press corps if she gets diagnosed with something lik

political commentator for cnn ryan lizza and political eder of "the root." race-related crime and the dynamic between police officers an the african-american community? how big a dynamic is that on monday for these two candidates? >> i think significant, because both candidates frankly have an incentive to talk about this for both candidates it's a significant issue. obviously, there are differences between them on this. for hillary clinton, she has really come out as a -- a defender of the black lives movement, and african american activists who are, you know -- who have deep concerns about policing in this country, and it's become a very important issue in her campaign. you know, frankly in a way that it would not have been, i think, for instance, in the '90s for a democratic candidate who would have treaded much more carefully on an issue like this. it shows how the parties really have changed and, of course, on the other hand, trump has positioned himself as a -- you know, a stalwart defender of the police, you know, coming out basically saying that the
