kron4's ryan o'donnell explains what this study found. re talking about a test that was done almost 60 years ago... and at the time... had nothing to do with researching alzheimers. in fact, they were trying to find some of the brightest kids to help in the space race. so, they were testing their cognitive skills. taking a look at the same people's medical records almost 60 years later, pt-med researchers found men who scored lower in mechanical reasoning and women who scored lower in memory for words, both had higher odds of having developed alzheimer types of diseases. out of 85- thousand people studied, 2-point-9 percent of the men and 3-point-3 percent of the women had developed alzheimer's or related diseases.researchers hope, by identifying certain cognitive indicators during adolescence, they can help identify at-risk groups, and start early prevention or intervention treatment.
