here's abc's ryan owens. >> i'm not a hero. mom. >> reporter: when this young mom says she'll do anything to protect her baby, she means it. >> there's nothing more dangerous than a mom with her baby. >> reporter: 18-year-old sarah mckinley was taking care of her 3-month-old son when police say two men tried to break into her home outside oklahoma city. >> he was crying at the time so i put a bottle in miss mouth, trying to get him to stop. i got a pistol and called 911 on my cell phone. >> reporter: mckinley just lost her husband to cancer on christmas day. and recognized one of the men as someone she thought was stalking her. for 20 terrifying minutes, she waited as they tried to bust in. >> are your doors locked? >> yes, i've got two guns in my hand. is it okay to shoot him if he comes in that door? >> i can't tell you that can you do that, but you do what you have to do to protect your baby. >> reporter: so, she did, shooting and killing the 24-year-old intruder. the other suspect later turned himself in. police in oklahoma

here's abc's ryan owens. >> reporter: hi.m lauren scruggs with "lola" magazine. >> reporter: six weeks after model lauren scruggs walked head on into that airplane propeller, so many are still wondering how could it happen? the pilot is providing details. kurt richmond told investigators from the national transportation safety board he warned the 23-year-old to stay away from the front of the plane. richmond says he leaned out of his seat and placed his right hand and arm in front of her to divert her from the front of the plane and the propeller. he continued to keep his arm extended and told the passenger that she should walk behind the airplane. the pilot could not say if scruggs heard him over the roar of that propeller. he just landed at this small airport north of dallas after taking the online fashion editor on a quick flight to look at christmas lights. he says he kept the engine running because he was just stopping long enough for scruggs to get out and a new passenger to get in. richmond told investigators he watche

ryan owens has the details from dallas. good morning, ryan. >> reporter: good morning to you.e coverup is often times worse than the crime. this woman is accused of murder. it's difficult to think of anything worse than that. but her coverup is no doubt worthy of an academy award. >> what is the emergency? >> reporter: a panic-stricken wife calls 911. she's so distraught that the dispatcher can't understand her. >> my husband was shot. >> reporter: detectives said her tears, her hysteria, all an act. this morning, 42-year-old michelle williams is charged with murder. accused of shooting her husband, greg, and concocting story after story to cover it up. it took police months to unravel the truth. this murder happened back in october. in a well-to-do suburb of dallas. the first story, the one she told 911. an intruder broke in, hit her over the head, and murdered her husband. >> somebody was in the house. [ inaudible ] and he's shot in the head. >> reporter: officers found no signs of forced entry. the neighbor's security camera showed no one approached the house that night. so

and ryan owens has more on her new pictures. good morning, ryan. >> reporter: good morning, george., lauren's family has been telling us how remarkable her recovery has been. this morning, we can see it for ourselves. it is quite a sight. she looks so strong, so surprisingly healthy. these pictures of lauren in a dallas cowboys hat and workout gear were snapped outside her rehab hospital on tuesday. the 23-year-old is with her parents and twin sister. we see her hugging dad, even flashing a smile. that patch on her eye, that empty sleeve, the only signs of how much this young model has lost. last month, her parents called her recovery remarkable. and credited her healthy life style. >> she eats so healthy. she's into organic food. mostly eats fruits and vegetables. she works out, loves to work out at the gym, she boxes. all of that really helped her. >> reporter: it's been six weeks since an airplane propeller sliced off her hand and into her face. doctors could not save her left eye. the accident happened after the online fashion editor got out of a small plane at an airport north
