ryan reilly is on this and joining us now for more.allegedly relates to a visit the army service member made to hong kong in march of 2020. >> that's important, that's when the pandemic was really hitting, so he's been in hong kong, basically been hanging out there for a really long time and trying to get this information to chinese intelligence officials. what's really interesting is a lot of this is based off of his own google results and a lot of the information that was on his icloud account that really gives you some real insight into what he was sort of thinking contemporaneously at the time. so in these early months he was googling phrases like soldier defect, can you be extradited for treason, questions along those lines, and then he also prepared these word documents allegedly that were on his apple icloud that also sort of went into the details of these classed -- this classified information he wanted to pass along. there's also an email to his sister that talks about what exactly he was thinking and said he learned informati

ryan reilly, we are happy you wrote this book.y novel. >> i got into this by rachel powell. she was on a bullhorn yelling and telling people how to take over the building. we have to coordinate together if we are taking this building. this tone reminded me of the frustrated kids issue. this results in not only criminal charges, but this is going to result in a pta resignation as well. as a result, someone landed in my inbox working on this. an american working in germany who identified them and got it to the fbi to figure out the next steps. they have been essential and critical in building up the investigation. >> they have been creative. one woman, we read, scrubs her bumble profile in order to get a date with one of these guys. >> it was a honeypot operation. she was surprised by how willing guys were to talk to a woman on there and say i was on the frontline and they bragged about it. as a result, he ended up he assaulted someone, officers with a metal whip. he had a bunch of guns in his home. she got a lot of information out

. -- ryan reilly.re there was a congressional committee investigating which created a vehicle for all the press to cover it, you were investigating the work of the sleuths. how did you first know about the work they were doing? >> it all sort of started with a twitter joke. there was a woman who actually was using a bullhorn. she was sentenced this week. her name is rachel powell. they nicknamed her bullhorn lady. and it was because she had on a pink hat and -- there's a broken window, and she was on the bullhorn yelling at -- instructions for what people inside the capitol should be doing and saying, okay, if we're going to take this building, we should coordinate together. and the tone she struck as a parent sort of reminded me of that tone when you're fwrus traitsed with your your kids or trying to get it together. so it sort of was like she was chaperoning an eighth grade field trip as these looters went through a senate office building where some of the senators had hide-away offices. a iraqable s
