ryan, what do we know? >> well, first of all, jose this is pretty shocking news from george santos.really does explain just how damming this report released by the house ethics committee which is comprised of an equal number of republicans and democrats and pushed out unanimously by the committee and just goes into great detail about the problems and issues they believe that george santos was involved in, many of which they believe are not becoming of a member of the united states congress. and we know that already in the works there are plans to introduce new resolutions to expel him from office. but the reason that this is surprising, that george santos decided that he will not seek re-election, is that he has been so insistent at every stage of this investigation that he wasn't going anywhere. and he was even insistent he would run for re-election despite all the issues surrounding him. and in a statement he just put out a few minutes ago, he said i will continue on in my mission to serve my constituents up until the time i am allowed, which is interesting, because that is alludi

ryan, what's next here? >> reporter: well, it's certainly a standoff between george santos and his fellow members of congress looks as though santos is making it clear that if they want him to leave congress, they're going to have to vote to kick him out. listen to how he talked about this situation yesterday. >> i mean, put up or shut up at this point. all these members are pushing this. they want me to resign because they don't want to take this tough vote that sets the precedent to their own demise in the future because they're not immune from all the nonsense that goes on in washington. >> reporter: george santos has had a number of conversations with the house speaker mike johnson, who has yet to officially weigh in on whether or not he believes that santos should be expelled from office. the earliest this vote could take place is today, but it's likely it slides until tomorrow. it is now a privileged resolution, which means that it does have to be voted on at least sometime this week. while it does appear that there's a growing sense of momentum that george santos will ultimately be expelled, it is not

santos is toast. >> does that mean that you're a yes? >> that's a yes. >> joining us now is republican congressman ryan zinke of montana, that was rather clclea about where he stood. do you wish the speaker had taken a more forceful position aligned with where you are? >> well, you know, we all waited until the ethics committee report was filed, and if you read it closely, there's no doubt in my mind, there's no doubt from the conclusion of the report that santos lied and was fraudulent in his election. so to me, you know, is it in the best interests of the u.s. house of representatives to have members that are serving on the basis of truth, you know, campaigns are hard, but when you're fraudulent from the very beginning, i don't think it's in the best interests of the house, and i certainly don't think it's in the best interests of the country. i've heard the argument, well, the majority. the same decision should be made whether we had a two-person majority or a 40-person majority because the issue is the same. is this member, is his presence in the best interests of congress or not, and in my judgment, he was elected through fraud and, ther

ryan. he's an nbc political analyst as well. let's talk about a couple of these things. i want to pick up where julie left off, i want to talk about the possible expulsion of george santos.athing report that i mentioned, the overall bucket is this misuse of campaign funds. has enough changed at this point that you think your former republican colleagues would expel george santos at this point? >> yes, absolutely. look, there was an expulsion resolution introduced by the chairman of the exit ethics committee themselves. you know the writing is on the wall. the big question i think is whether he does -- the smart thing and resign before it comes to that. let's remember, there's only been five people expelled in the entire history of the house of republicans -- the house of representatives. in 200 years, 300 were for a confederate. you could add themselves -- he's not the first person who's had a lot of ethics struggles and has had to leave congress, it just rarely gets to the point where you have to vote for it because people realize that they need to go. you happen to be dealing with a person who seems to be so out in his own world that he may not understand that that is
