. >> right now , lasting damage and lost days after the fourth of july, good afternoon, i'm ryan yamamoto. firefighters are on high alert this time of year, when fireworks, warmer temperatures and dry grass make for a dangerous combination. overnight, a brush fire broke out in castro valley and started burning near carter lane. alameda county fire tweeted they have contained the fire, so far no word on what caused that fire. >>> a close call for one neighborhood in napa county, a wall of flames burned very close to their homes, forcing people to escape, but the fire burned seven acres before crews were able to knock it down and allow people to return to their homes. >>> and contra costa firefighters were chasing dozens of fires just like this one. likely caused by fireworks. tuesday, calls to the county were 25% over last year and one of those fires burned through two homes in antioch. we spoke to the neighbors who lost roofs over their heads and much more. >> reporter: no one knows where the spark came from that ignited this home, it was about 3:00 in the morning when his dogs began bark

i'm ryan yamamoto. >> and elizabeth cook. 113 people were arrested at a skateboarding event near dolores park. we spoke with one neighbor who has to's now picks up his home. >> reckless, really, downright dangerous according to san francisco police near dolores park. this happened over the weekend. some residents came home and noticed damage to their windows. things got out of hand during the annual dolores bomb event over the weekend. thankfully, rob was not home but the aftermath lets them know there's chaos. >> three bullet holes went through our front door of the building and one through our living room. >> we noticed there were a few other windows which appeared to be possibly damaged by bb holes. here is footage of the lawlessness. people living in the area told police they feared for their safe he is fireworks were being set off. buses were being vandalized and at one point, 18 allegedly spit on a sergeant. >> i'm not surprised. this happens every year with this event. we actually saw them last year pulling people out of their cars and beating them up, breaking their windows, taki

. >> i am ryan yamamoto. in san jose they're dealing with another deadly crash this afternoon. this time it was a two car wreck near intersection of capital expressway and snell avenue around 1:00 this morning. when police arrived, they found two victims. both were rushed to local hospitals where police say one driver died from injuries and the other remains in critical condition. that area was closed in both directions for hours while authorities finished their investigation and cleared that scene. the cause of the crash has not been determined yet. this mark's san jose's 28th deadly crash of the year. to try and combat the numbers, san jose is one of three bay area cities that can soon get automated speed cameras. the other two being san francisco and oakland along with los angeles, glendale, long beach. it will be part of a five year pilot program to see if they help cut down on these kinds of accidents. opponents worry that it will be an invasion of people's privacy. >>> in oakland, chp investigating another shooting on 580, in the west bound lanes after grand avenue. lucki

i am ryan yamamoto. >> i am elizabeth cook. our katie nielsen is outside the refinery in martinez with today's public health scare. katie? >> reporter: yeah, liz. this is where both of these emissions happened. the first one was on thanksgiving day last year and the other one happened this morning around 8: 30, leaving many residents to question whether enough is being done to prevent these accidental releases. >> all the stacks where they do releases are down. >> reporter: john taylor's home is practically in the shadows of martinez refineries with the tanks visible from his front yard. this is why he said the report about a petroleum coke release was concerning. according to the contra costa county health department, around 8: 30 this morning the martinez refinery company notified them of a petroleum coke release that lasted approximately one minute. it is an and stage product of the refinery process and is black and looks a lot like sort, but sometimes it can contain heavy metals which can be hazardous. that is what incident
