i'm ryan yamamoto. another first alert weather day with thunderstorms expected throughout northern california. we are getting a look at the damage from the latest atmospheric river including acing out of mendocino county where the high waters took over this road . wineries in the area took a hit. the water is coming from the russian river. the river surged above flood stage overnight. sonoma county crews trudge through this road to rescue a driver trapped in a car. this was in the community of windsor. let's take a live look outside. that heavy rain has moved on but there is still some lingering showers. meteorologist jessica burch has much more. >> how is it going? it is a first alert weather day for us in the bay area. yesterday, we saw dangerous winds and some of the heaviest rain we have seen all season. as we take a look at first alert doppler, it is a lot later. throughout the bay area, we are waking up to the clouds. we woke up to cloudy conditions this morning. i want to show you what it is look

i am ryan yamamoto. it was an emotional roller coaster for faithful and niners, just another painful loss. in the end kansas city chiefs scored winning touchdown in over time. that was the reaction from kansas city to beat the 49ers 25-22. that's the second time in five years the niners lost to the chiefs in the super bowl. this afternoon bay area fans are making their way home from las vegas. what happened in vegas is definitely not staying there. many are feeling that super bowl hangover today. >> we were so close. i lost my voice screaming. i was leaving it all out there for the faithful. >> the game started off so promising but the reigning champs came from behind to clinch back to back lombardi trophies. >> reporter: it seemed like the 49ers were dealt a good hand sunday night. imagine they were playing black jack, had two cards that added to 20 and dealer had a two. five card flip. dealer gets 21. niners lose the hand. that's how the super bowl felt. the niners felt in control for most of the game

good afternoon, i'm ryan yamamoto. the most expensive measure, prop e. it would give police more power to use surveillance technology, ease restrictions on car chases. critics argue it would reduce transparency but supporters say the recent burglary in the sunset district is an example why it's necessary. police got there when the suspects were getting away. they could not chase them because the crime did not meet the criteria. how prop e would change that. >> reporter: kira was driving this blue s.u.v. when a police chase ended in a fairy crash on the other side of the bay bridge last december. keegan wasn't the suspect but she said the suspect crashed into her vehicle after fleeing a crime in san francisco. nearly three months later, getting in the car, even to get to work, remains a challenge. >> i was in a lot of shock. i was very disoriented, really couldn't process what happened to me. the pain didn't really set in until around, you know, five minutes after i got out of my vehicle. and i just wanted to see if my pham -- wanted to see my family. >>

. >>> i'm ryan yamamoto in for liz cook. one storm and then another taking aim at the bay area. we have a stretch of rainy and windy days ahead. let's get right to first alert meteorologist jessica burch in the virtual view studio. >> heading into this weekend, we have back-to-back atmospheric river events starting tomorrow morning, lasting throughout tomorrow afternoon and then we have our second system moving in late sunday night early into monday morning. if you have the day off for presidents' day, impacting any of your plans you have that day. let's start off with what is going on today alone. partly cloudy skies in the forecast moving in from off shore with light wind. we have some fog. here is what it is looking like tomorrow morning. we see close to a half inch of rain in the northbay. watch those numbers add up . moving in from offshore, we have gusty winds at times. we could see wind speeds along our coast at 40 miles per hour at times. that system continues to track into the east. over an inch up in the northbay, closer into san francisco and it tapers off as we gear

i am ryan yamamoto. strong winds top aled trees and power lines leaving branches and debris across the road way. shawn chitnis is in walnut creek where they're trying to get the lights back on where a power pole fell. what's the progress there? >> reporter: first let's talk about the impact it is having on drivers. if you look over here, you see that the back up continues. it's a long stretch of the road here. we are at the point where it goes from being down one lane to being down two lanes just before homestead avenue. that's why we are seeing such the delay here. let's zoom into what is one of the major problems at this particular spot where you can see one of the power lines has come down on its side, one of the many examples around the bay area of the impact of the strong and storms winds. let's look at the view from above that we have from the helicopter that gives a sense of what pge crews have been working on for quite sometime. we know there were concerns earlier and they were able to clear anot

i'm anne makovec in for ryan yamamoto . we will have more from vegas coming up in a moment. first, our weather. >>> taking a live look outside as another round of wet weather hits the bay area. >> a mix of rain and hail pounding parts of the region today here in el cerrito. you can see some of the hail bouncing off the edge of the porch. the rain is making for slick conditions out on the roadways. here is traffic on the san mateo heywood bridge. check this out. the system is bringing a little bit of snow at the observatory on top of mt. hamilton. just a little dusting but it is cold enough that 4200 feet for some of that snow to stick. what are we looking at here? >> it is not an an atmospheric river but it is rain driven by an area of low pressure that swept throughout the bay earlier this morning and it is leaving more showers in the forecast for our friends in the south bay. let's take a quick look at what is happening. this is not an an atmospheric river event like what we had earlier. this area of low pressure came in from the gulf of alaska bringing breezy conditions.

i'm ryan yamamoto . let's get over to jessica burch in our virtual view studio. >> here in the bay area, mid to low 60s in areas like fremont, redwood city, all the way along the 101. as we head into the next couple of days, we will continue to warm up a little more. we could potentially see some upper 60s and lower 70s in the forecast throughout the santa clara valley with a lot more sunshine compared to today's forecast. let me show you the next seven days. what is interesting about the forecast is the fact that we will continue to warm up and see partly cloudy to sunny skies tomorrow. a cold front approaches us and the temperatures get right back to the low 60s, upper 50s. we get a splash of showers and once that moves out monday afternoon, we are left with the light at the end of the tunnel. sunshine for tuesday and wednesday and then slowly, cloudy skies role in through late next week. >>> thousands of people are expected in san francisco tomorrow to enjoy the city's lunar new year parade. this year

i am ryan yamamoto. thousands in the bay area are under a flood advisory as another atmospheric river hits our state. in the east bay a section of niles canyon road is closed indefinitely because part of the road collapsed. this is west of sunol, one way traffic control is in place. drivers should expect major delays. up north on highway 128 in geyser ville, crews were busy working to remove this giant tree that came crashing down during a mud slide. in santa cruz, slick road conditions and speed may be to blame for this crash along highway 17. you see a car on top of its roof. the chp said the driver was able to get out and was not hurt. officers are warning drivers to slow down. >>> the storm is impacting the coast. this is rough surf along santa cruz wharf. you see the big waves. we have live team coverage. shawn chitnis is in the north bay. first begin with meteorologist jessica burch. >>> it's been such an active morning throughout the bay area. it is a first alert weather day in the bay as we gear

i'm ryan yamamoto in for lisbeth cook. >>> flash flooding and real threats this afternoon as heavy rain moves all across the bay area. new video from around lombard street in san francisco really started coming down hard this afternoon along with thunder and lightning. let's get over to first alert meteorologist darren peck tracking all of this from our virtual view studio. >> that line of rain has been responsible for a flood warning being issued in the city. i will show you the details on that. first, the big picture view. you can see how much lightning this system had to work with. you no doubt heard or saw some of that yourself if you were in the bay over the course of the last two hours. what is important is where is that line of heaviest rain. we can track that with more detail to pick out the progress of it. we come in with a close-up look. there is san francisco. these are the places that have been hit the hardest. san francisco, the only place that has gotten a flood warning. the national weather service has deemed this to be enough rain where flooding is occurring. city street

i'm elizabeth cook in for ryan yamamoto. we are in a first alert weather mode as the sierra nevada braces for severe weather that could bring historic snowfall to the region. here is a live look at sierra at tahoe resort where snow was already falling. rear blizzard warning is in effect as well. this system could bring more than 10 feet of snow in the next three days and wind conditions up to 80 miles per hour which could also bring down trees and power lines. officials are warning folks not to travel to the tahoe area. they are expecting zero visibility on the roads and chp says drivers can expect to see road closures. >> it is going to be very likely the freeway will probably end up being shut down numerous times, if not for possibly long periods of time. >> the snow is causing big problems on i-80. crews are working to clear the big rig that overturned on its side east of the donner lake interchange. that crash locking all eastbound lanes right now. chp says the driver suffered minor injuries. no word on when the road wil

thanks for joining us, i'm ryan yamamoto in for elizabeth cook. we begin with that breaking news that began as a protest and a rally at civic center plaza that brought traffic to a standstill on our local freeways. this was the moment the large group of protesters marched down octavia towards the freeway entrance. chp was in place trying to stop demonstrators from getting there closer. here are some of the demonstrators on the freeway at interstate 80 split. you can see a group of people blocking the lanes from one side of the freeway. cars on the side of the roadway had no chance, but to go into reverse and then exit that freeway. the large crowd was eventually escorted off the freeway, where they made their way off the exit ramp and then spilled back onto city streets. chp is asking drivers to avoid the freeway from debose avenue to octavia boulevard. then a couple of hours ago, all the demonstrators were back out at civic center plaza. many holding signs and palestinian flags demanding a ceasefire in gaza. this all comes less than a week after

i'm ryan yamamoto. the storms will bring heavy rain, gusty winds and rough surf to northern california. let's get right to meteorologist jessica burch. >> heavy atmospheric rivers building into the california coastline this weekend, causing a lot of issues when it comes to heavier rain and strong winds. today is the calm before the storm. 60s along the peninsula, all the way up into the heart of san francisco. we are seeing clouds roll in from offshore all throughout this afternoon. by tomorrow morning into those early morning hours, i 9:00, we will see a half inch of rain accumulate in the north bay and the storms get stronger through the afternoon. it will continue to ramp up and track to the east, producing over an inch of rain up in the north bay. a quarter inch of rain throughout the santa clara valley. it will be an impressive system into sunday and monday because that first storm comes and goes throughout saturday. our second system fills in and causes more issues. we see thunderstorm activity, h
