i'm ryan yamamoto, alameda county just released a snapshot of its homelessness picture countywide. homelessness has dropped by 3% with unsheltered homelessness decreasing from 11%. from 2022. they also say there was a 19%. increase in people accessing shelters, but in alameda county's largest city, oakland the number of homeless people that actually went up by 9% over the last 2 years. still, that is less of the trend from 2015 to 2022. when oakland average increases of 32% 32%. between between counts. county leaders say they're encouraged by the progress, but they acknowledge much more work needs to be done. and san francisco also in the spotlight for its homelessness crisis. and this morning, merrill canada, daniel lurie announced his plan to tackle the issue. and that home run strategy will focus on building more. interim housing and opposed to just permanent how which loury says takes takes many years to permit and build. leaving more people out on the streets. well, the family of the man who died in police custody in antioch back in 2020 has settled with the city for 7.5 0. 0.

. >> i'm ryan yamamoto. >>> this all started with a chase all over the bay area this afternoon. anne makovec is following the latest developments. >> this all started before noon with a freeway shooting on 101 near windsor in santa rosa. the hunt for that shooter went on for hours and the standoff is underway as we speak. let's go out live to i-80 in fairfield. in that silver sedan on the left hand bottom side of your screen is a person accused of shooting into an suv this morning. a woman was driving that suv. she was not injured, but her window was shot out. officers tracked the suspect vehicle's license plate. they found that vehicle at around 2:00 this afternoon with a driver in it near rohnert park. from there the case was on. here we are three hours later. the car has been stopped in fairfield for almost two hours. officers are in a standoff with the driver whom they believe is still armed. they're planning their moves carefully. our chopper watched the chase earlier this afternoon down 580 on the richmond-san rafael bridge with several cop cars on the tail of this silver

i'm ryan yamamoto. >>> that assault happened at the couple's san francisco home in november 2022. body camera video from arriving officers showing the moment dave depape hit paul pelosi with a hammer. reporter elise preston was in court today as depape learned his sentence. >> reporter: ryan, david depa was sentenced to 30 years for the violent attack on paul pelosi and attempted kidnapping of the former speaker of house nancy pelosi. the judge handed down the decision today saying depape harmed all americans when he broke into the family's home in october 2022. the attack was captured on police body camera video. today the couple's daughter christine read victim impact statements in court. in those statements the pelosis mention their home still has blood stations, visual reminders of the crime scene. the family and prosecution asked for 40 years. depape's defense argued for 14 years citing he didn't have a criminal history and was not a threat to the public. the defense also pointed to sentencing in the january 6th attack saying that those defendants who were convicted of trying
