. >> yeah, there certainly has been a turf war between the s.e.c.t years. there's been confusing and conflicting statements from the commissioners, the chairs, the officials at the s.e.c. and the cftc saying cryptocurrencies are regregulated under the s.e.c.'s jurisdiction, cftc is saying the same thing. this creates a lot of risk for businesses who want to be compliant, follow the law and do the right thing. if you don't know who your regulator is, how do you do that? this is a huge part of what's driven the industry out of the united states. i worked closely with quintes and paul atkins over a number of years. paul atkins is one of our advisory board members at the digital chamber. he is absolutely committed to bringing that regulatory clarity, brian quintes is a former cftc commissioner. he has technical expertise. he has industry expertise. that checks a lot of boxes in terms of who is going to lead the agency. quintes called for a self regulatory agency in 2018 for the digital asset market so he's not new to the space. he's shown great expertis

caroline: someone who has not only served on the s.e.c. before is a commissioner but has gone on to advise fintech, crypto companies. tell us a little bit more, other than crypto. how else is he going to be facing the financial markets? like: i'm glad you brought that up because he is far from a one trick pony. he is a seasoned regulator. one of the analysts are colleagues spoke to after he was named referred to him as the godfather of conservative capital markets ideology, and that is a big statement, but he will be coming in with an agenda to make broader changes at the agency which oversees a markets report to investors and how companies report to investors and markets. and we will be looking possibly for changes in disclosure rules and and easing up perhaps of some of the heavier fines we have seen -- fines we have seen the s.e.c. impose under gary gensler. that is something atkins has singled out in the past that we can look for him to try to target again in the future. caroline: mike sheppard with all the context. we thank you. for m

while the s.e.c.play a role, the legislation gives more responsibility for regulating cryptocurrencies to the cftc, the commodity futures trading commission, which oversees futures markets for everything, from gold to pork bellies and already has some jurisdiction over bitcoin. >> the s.e.c. is made ten times the size of the cftc. the sec's mandate is one of protection. they have legion i don't understand of attorneys who go out and do these inspections and audit. the cftc is more about the integrity of the marketplace. i don't blame the industry for wanting to be under the cfct. it's a much easier regime. >> it has bipartisan support and it passed the house. >> it doesn't surprise me at all that it has the support that it has. >> why? >> it doesn't pay for a member of congress, senate, whoever you're talking about, it doesn't pay for them to be anti-crypto. there's no one that's going to give them contributions because o that. >> lawmakers from both parties told us crypto firms will not escape scruti

so we analyzed the latest s.e.c.d at least a million dollars. elon musk led the way with $277 million donated. all through superpacs and while he is an outlier, we found five of trump's picks and four future ambassadors that also spent heavily for republicans. linda mcmahon, she spent $24 million. howard lutnick, almost $14 million. and scott bessent, potential future treasury secretary spent $3 million in the last two years. so together these top ten donated at least $359 million in this cycle. a staggering amount really even in this sort of post citizens united era of big money politics that we're in. and for comparison, we did not find any political appointees in the biden or the obama administration that donated more than a million dollars in one cycle and even in trump's first term, we found two, linda mcmahon and betty devos who led the education department. and you say that healthy donors are awarded with ambassadorships, but trump's biggest donor was warren stevens, he's headed to the u.k., he spent more than

time accelerating the post-election rally as president-elect trump taps paul at kins to chair the s.e.c>>> very good morning, everyone. there's a lot happening today on the corporate front, but we start with the political front. the french government has collapsed after prime minister michel barnier and his members were ousted in a no-confidence vote. this is the first time it has collapsed in this way since 1962. let's get a check on how french assets are moving as a result or off the back, i should say, of the latest political developments. we are seeing the cac 40 up more than .50%. seeing that silience despite the turmoil. giving back some of the losses we have seen in recent times. actually, an interesting stat is when you look at the performance for the common currency between the last political instability back in june and now the currency is down 4%. of course, there are other dynamics here t. is important to keep in mind the context of france and briefly looking at the ten-year yield on the o.a.t. at this stage, moving down 2.98%. overall, the last couple days, we did see the s

and yesterday, trump chose an s.e.c. chair mpwho is famously pro- rypto. so, trump's of new s.e.c. chair code, if you wanted to, or if trump directed him to -- trump's a new s.e.c. chair could dismiss the investigation into justin sun entirely. now, whether or not sun offered trump $22 million in profit will actually influence anything or even help justin sun at all, that is unknowable at this point. le but these kinds of conflicts are precisely why presidents do not do business like this. it is impossible to know where e trump the business ends and where trump the president begins. and this one chinese billionaire buying trump's cryptocurrency is just the example we have today. next week, eric trump, who k, again is now the de facto leader of trump's businesses, he is headed to abu dhabi to headline a cryptocurrency conference. eric trump is literally traveling to another country to pitch the trump cryptocurrency to international investors. are you a rich person from a foreign country? would you like the opportunity to put a lot of money into the pockets of the american president?

for all of the stuff that's driving every company crazy you know i mean, her her appointees in ftc, s.e.cd all these other places that are affecting mergers and regulation, she's all the climate warriors that are bearing a state like north dakota with, 30 plus rules and regulations. one of each just one of those is the smallest is 800 pages. they typically are 1400 pages. we've run out of lawyers in north dakota trying to fight the federal government on regulation in order talked about the president being, the greatest president. the other thing that he did was he got of a lot of regulation during the time that he was office, which is a relief. so there's that when that night threw their party into complete disarray. so that would be great then. the next morning, supreme court case is started coming in the chevron deference, which is going to help the economy. that's a big win. yes. and and you have and then you have these other court cases that have been a win win, win win win for the president. and then, of course this this a mm. away from a complete change in history on saturday night

we have so many people in the administration favorable to bitcoin, including the new s.e.c.irman as well as the commerce secretary and vice president with 50% of his holdings are in bitcoin. there are people across the board in this new administration. this is going to be the most positive administration ever and we expect the regulatory environment to be positive as well. >> that's really interesting. we often talk about the president-elect as the president with the most focus on wall street and the business community. why don't we lean into it? how do your investors see bitcoin up 30% since the election. as we go into 2025, are they seeing more opportunities in the cryptocurrency space? >> they see huge opportunity in the cryptocurrency space. we anticipate bitcoin is going to be used and deposited in the bank. imagine watching it increase while it is also gaining interest. we think there is an opportunity for making bitcoin deposits. again, we think we will collateralize bitcoin. within the regulatory administration that is friendly to this. >> let's talk about this stat

obviously with the change in administration and that change at the ftc and the s.e.c., is that a netk for the ipo market? >> i certainly think that the ipo market feels that it is. i think that people are dusting off their banker's phone numbers and giving them a call after what's been a few years slowdown for ipos and m&a. i think we're going to see those floodgates open as early as february, march. there are a lot of companies that have needed to ipo that really can't raise more in the private markets and so i think that we're going to see them. the names that i'm most excited about are a lot of the fin tech ones, i think klarna will be interesting. i think the strike when they do the ipo filing will be monster. these are companies that have already to a large extent repriced themselves in the last few years. they've taken their valuations down proactively and that is good for the public markets. so that their valuation kind of more accurately reflects the public market comps and so i think that come february, march, i'm going to be looking for more filings and t works i think that
