a little bit of a historical context so there will be a clearer understanding of san francisco lead s.f. and then to better understand the item that's before you for approval. before receiving the funding in 2019, the city, along with nine other city jurisdictions in california, we worked over 20 years to, basically, in a lawsuit against three paint manufacturing companies, for knowingly putting lead in the paint. so the children's environmental health department staff, we were the main parties involved in the program? so for the lawsuit, d.p.h. provided epidemiological data and testimonies in court. while winning the lawsuit requires the expertise of health professionals, using the funding what it is designated to do requires a set of skills that d.p.h. just doesn't have. the settlement funding is required to reduce the amount of lead that came from paint, and that means construction, setting up isolated work areas, replacing leaded building components with new ones, replacing the doors, repainting. the city doesn't do this type of work, and nor can it do this type of work on private p
