i echo the comments of rescue s.f. i think if you peel back the hyperbole, there is a significant gap between the folks that are for this legislation and against this legislation. there's been a lot of talk about bad policy. i think bad policy is continuing to spend untold billions of dollars and having no significant improvement and, in fact, having families devolve. this is an incremental step, an incremental step that has the potential of being quite positive and needs to be pushed forward and passed. what we need to do is not continue the failures of the past and continue our spending of untold billions of dollars on a problem that seems to be intractable and exceedingly difficult to solve. there is no magic bullet, there's no magic wand that can be waved that will eliminate it. it's these incremental steps forward that will cause some improvement in the situation if we continue pushing forward with it. thank you. >> clerk: thank you for your comments. let's go to the next caller. >> good afternoon. my name is edna

we do this in collaboration with the office of economic development and nonprofit spaces s.f. which is a family support organization as well as mission hiring hall who serve moderate to low income job seekers and the city program helps applicants becoming qualified in their application including the dealing with issues like commercial driver's license. the city drive partners attended all of these events in april and as a result, we were able to register 134 applicants for the two week program. that will then make them ready to come to the sfmta with their full credentials for becoming operators. also i want to report that between march 1st and april 22nd, we're able to hire 69 new transit operators and in that roughly same time period, we hired an additional another 94 staff. this is a huge uptick in the amount of hiring that we've been able to do. in part staffing up in h.r. and lot of the streamline work to make sure that we can follow all the rules, hold ourselves accountable, put equity first and make things work smoothly. as i'm sure all of you heard, the board of superv
