fox 29's sabina kuriakose live at northeast detectives with this woman's act of bravery, hi sabina. >> reporter: good morning, lauren this pastor's wife was packing some heat. she was able to defend her family from what police are describing asiana alleged robbers. lets look at video from the scene this robbery happen at 11:00 last night in the 1100 block of pratt street in the frankford section of the city. police say this family, a husband, wife and their 12 year-old son were just getting home when they pulled into their drive way and they were could be fronted by this man holding a rifle. they say that the guy tried to rob them. that is when the 48 year-old husband told the suspect he didn't have any money. well, the guy didn't like that very much so he took his rifle and allegedly jammed it in the face of the husband and that is when the wife reacted. she reached into her purse. she pulled out a licensed handgun as she is permitted to carry and fired off one shot, enough to hit the guy in the leg and he took off running. the husband tried to chase him down but get this the the guy

at the fire station, sabina?behind me, the flag here at station six has been lowered. we know that lieutenant christopher leach was assigned to engine six. we're not far from the scene of yesterday's fire during which lieutenant leach and firefighter jerry fickes died in the line of duty. these are photos of firefighter fickes and lieutenant leach. so much grief as you mentioned throughout wilmington. and the extended community here. it appears that the firefighters rushed in to danger, believing that children trapped inside the home, floor of the row home that they were in, then collapsed, beneath their feet, trapping the two men. both were fathers, and veteran firefighters, and a vigil yesterday family and friends and fellow firefighters gathered to grieve. they shared with us memories of both men. >> ♪ (thomas) ♪ >> i was with jerry's family all morning, i've known the leach family my whole life. everything we can do to help them out. that's what we'll do. >> in wilmington, we haven't lost a firefighter in the

let's get out to sabina kuriakose. she's live at the scene with the latest. sabina? >> reporter: we want to say right now, this very preliminary information that we have but let me take you here to the scene. we're hearing reports that at least one firefighter march of sustained serious injuries and have been taken to the hospital. again, these are very, very initial reports. but as we take you to the scene here, you can see it is extremely solemn. we have a lot of firefighters, helmets in hand, the fire has been wrapped up a little bit earlier, the firefighters are still gathered. this was a row home fire. the call came in about 2:55. about 3:00 when firefighters rushed here to the fire inside of a resident inside a row home. i did speak with neighbors as they were walking around, they told me they live across the street from where the fire happened. they themselves woken up by other neighbors. they told me they couldn't talk to me because they had to go and continue to be interviewed by the fire marshalls. again, it appears the investigation into exactly the cause

joanne pileggi is live in west philadelphia where the shooting spree began but let's begin with sabinauriakose who is live at penn presbyterian hospital where the officers are recovering tonight. sabina. >> reporter: dawn, the police commissioner calling this one of the most violent acts he has seen in philadelphia in a long time. we are learning much more tonight from authorities. we now know the identity of the shooter. police say he is 25-year-old nicholas glenn a career criminal with at least 16 priors. we are also learning that police say glenn shot at philadelphia sergeant sylvia young 18 times at close range spiking her eight times as she sat in her patrol car. he struck her police issued gun and she could not return fire. during the ensuing foot chase with police glenn shot four bystanders, killing one of them. he was shot dead in gun fight with police after wounding a university of pennsylvania officer. he had three empty magazine clips and 15 live rounds on him when he was killed showing that he was heavily armed and in his pocket was a note expressing hatred of police. autho

sabina kuriakose live from the scene in frankford with more, hi there, sabina. >> reporter: good morning, lauren. i just spoke to the pastor here where victims of this crime and he gave an incredible account of exactly what happened. first lets go to video from the scene, police combed this scene. pastor says he had just gotten home with his wife and young son. they noticed a strange man hanging outside. they said hello. they went to get inside his house. pastor says that he turned around and he had a sawed off shotgun pointed in to his face. he thought about his 12 year-old son standing right there but, of course, his wife thought quickly. she reached inside her purse and she pulled out her own handgun. she was able to shoot the suspect once this is leg. he took off. here's the pastor, describing the terrifying moments about what happened. >> i think it was a crime of opportunity. he was walking down the street. he saw us getting out of the vehicle and saw the chain, i was distract, he acted like he was a crippled. i didn't think anything of it. when he stood up, he was 6-foot tall. i c
