tracy martin and miss sabrina fulton along with their attorney. and foremost the statement from the justice department we extended and continue to extend our deepest condolences to the family for their loss. during the course of this meeting we listened to the concerns of the family and the representatives. the statement winds up by saying this. earlier this week the department of justice announced the opening of a parallel investigation into the death of trayvon martin. that matter remains open at this time. the department of justice, u.s. attorneys office and fiber available to provide likal authorities with assistance in this case where appropriate. that's the statement just released by the justice department. we'll have the news conference from the parents as soon as they show up there. there will be a rally there later tonight as well. we're watching this story unfold. we're also watching other important news including more information now about the man behind the deadly shooting spree in france. the man was apparently on the u.s. no-fly list

tracy martin and sabrina fulton are not scheduled to testify at the hearing, but the family attorney, benjamin crump, is slated to speak. the hearing is meant to examine the role of the federal government in hate crime cases and will discuss stand your ground laws. george zimmerman, who shot and killed martin, is currently protected by a so-called stand your ground law because he says he acted in self-defense. friends of zimmerman in a report confirmed by police seem to support the claim. the report says that zimmerman was walking away from martin when the teenager was attacked from behind -- rather, when the teen attacked him from behind. zimmerman says he was punched in the face, breaking his nose and then his head was smashed against the sidewalk. adding to the emotion, confirmation that martin was suspended from school after a baggy with marijuana residue was found in his backpack. >> they've killed my son, and now they're trying to kill his reputation. >> we're not asking for an eye for an eye. we're asking for justice, arrest needs to be made for george michael zimmerman. >> bot
