live in sacramento, i'm ryan takeo, kpix 5. >> senator leland yee's attorney just released a statement. he is not taking issue with the senate suspending his client. instead he says, quote, suspension is the right step for now and is appropriate in a system that presumes the innocence of the accused. >>> it's been only 48 hours since word of leland yee's arrest, and now today he is essentially booted from the state senate. kpix 5 reporter cate caugiran is outside the senator's home with reaction to his stunning fall from grace. cate. >> reporter: michelle, we have been here over the past two days since yee left the federal courthouse on wednesday. and still no sign, no comment, no appearance from yee. we know he returned to his house after making bail. but is he still here? the only real activity we have seen from this house is when a woman who said she was a supporter stopped by yesterday to drop off muffins. is he inside? did you see the senator inside? is he in there? >> i just give him this. >> reporter: this was the last we saw of him the senator leaving the courthouse making no c

just in, these are pictures of a funnel cloud near sacramento. it was spotted crossing interstate 5, about 15 miles northwest of the capital. >> the weather making for a dangerous commute tonight for drivers across the bay area. the chp out in force. good friday evening. thanks for joining us. i'm janelle wang. >> and i'm raj mathai. the rain has been active and damaging. the next question, how will this impact our weekend? we have a team of reporters and meteorologists across the bay area. let's begin with our chief meteorologist jeff ranieri who is tracking our late night conditions. jeff? >> we're seeing the next wave just as forecasted beginning to move in from the south. more of that coming up, but i want to look at these storm reports. we have one of about everything today. flooding, flash flooding at that, trees down, winds that topped 60 miles per hour. one of the top reports coming in northwest of sacramento and woodland. that's where we had that funnel cloud report. the storm spotter said the funnel was about 800 feet off the ground. so

a total of three tornadoes have hit the sacramento injure so far this -- sacramento area so far this week. in the past they have been rare to the area but they are becoming more common. the worst tornado ever recorded in california was actually in january, 1951 in sunnyvale when 30 people were hurt and 150 homes were damaged. >>> new concerns about how california's drought will endanger wildlife. scientists are focusing on the effects of toxins in the bay. during the rainy years the toxins are deluded or washed out of the bay. since we haven't had a lot of rain, the chemicals have stayed in the bay and millions of tiny clams are absorbing them. biologists are worried they will let the clams spread into the sacramento and san joaquin rivers. >> now the clam is here. we are now going to allow it to go further up river and by doing that we are increasing the area the clam is available to their predators. >> high levels of sew lean yum are blamed for causing deformed ducks and fish in the wildlife refuge. scientists say the best way to prevent the similar problem now is to get more rain.

sacramento's urban search-and- rescue team is on standby to be deployed to the disaster area. today, crews spent the day loading specialized rescue gear on the big rigs ready to roll out for a difficult search. >> the access and the footing is going to be difficult. the earlier reports back from the washington team are that even the search dogs are having difficulty getting some of the areas they are getting stuck in the mud. >> the body of a navy commander and the son of a yolo county man was recovered earlier today. his wife is still missing. 14 bodies have been pulled from the mud slide so far. many others are still missing. >>> a firefighter led away from a crash scene in handcuffs by a chp officer has now filed a claim. the dispute happened in february in southern california right in front of the cameras. the firefighter was cuffed, put into the officer's car after refusing to move a fire engine. he was not arrested. a lawyer for the firefighter sent the claim to the chp. he says he will drop it if the officers stop delaying or blocking firefighters from responding to cra
