(darya) two officers are recovering after being attacked in davis over the weekend. it happened at the annual "picnic day" at u-c davis. more than 50-thousand people were expected to show up for the celebration on saturday. two plain-clothes officers were breaking up crowds partying in the streets when they were attacked. police say the crowd started taunting them before several people stared beating them to the ground. the officers were punched and kicked in the head and hit with bottles. they were eventually able to fight off their attackers and call for backup. three men were arrested.
