it does cover a big portion of northern california, most of the northern sacramento valley, and areast are a part of the bay area and adjacent to the bay area. here's a look at the map, and you can see that it's in effect until 8 p.m. monday. it covers again a large portion of the northern sacramento valley, plus solano county and a good portion of lake county and little bits of northern sonoma and napa counties. humidity will be between 10 and 20, which is dangerously low during this period of time. gusts will range from 25 to 35mph. right now, looking at the immediate bay area, the winds are well. they're breezy, but not terribly strong, but the wind gusts will intensify during the daytime, diminish at night, and humidity will increase at night and diminish during the day. you add the low humidity and the gusty winds together. high fire danger. so right now the fire danger index indicates that we are currently in the low to moderate range. but by midday tomorrow we'll see much of the north bay and portions of the east bay in the moderate to high range. by mid afternoon to late after

it's the northern sacramento valley and lake county that will be in effect from 8:00 tonight of 11:00 tonight to 8:00 monday night. and winds will be gusting 25 to 45mph at times. relative humidity will be dangerously low. now here in the bay area right now we're looking at temperature readings not more than about mid to upper 80s in our inland areas. but you can combine that warmth, not excessive heat, but that warmth with the powerful wind gusts that are developing already along the coast. right now, we have gusts up to 25mph. and of course, that elevates the fire concerns. so here's our wind gusts animation taking us into the overnight hours. and tomorrow you'll see that we'll have by tomorrow. uh. well, later this afternoon actually gusts up to 45mph on the coast. then by tomorrow, 45mph pushing inland as well. 35 to 45 gusts all across the bay area. now the winds diminish. they tend to overnight as the relative humidity increases overnight. so that's good news. but then again on monday, we'll see the winds bouncing back up again to dangerous levels along with increased or decreas

but the northern sacramento valley through tuesday.y picture here outside with the clear sky and temperatures ranging from about 50 at the coast, 51 in san francisco, we are 56. in hayward, 57 san jose and nice and glassy and calm here, looking out over the city, 49 santa rosa, napa, 58, in concord, current wind check at the surface. we're a little breezy. san francisco up to 24 miles an hour. upper elevations. it's windier from mount tam, 26 mile an hour. wind gusts 31 miles an hour, mount diablo and relative humidity. there has been quite low in the upper elevation, so spare the air the alert. today the main weather factor is gusty winds, low humidity through tuesday and then by the middle of the week, early wednesday morning, we'll get back into an onshore flow throughout the day. today, those winds up to 25 and perhaps 30 miles an hour. take a look at livermore. the next several days we cool off into the middle of the week, but we are talking a lot of heat coming our way. the end of the week, not only for livermore. we're talking a

we may see some winds return potentially in the sacramento valley being offshore.bit. this is way up there and these things can change a little bit here. but that's not great. if we get an offshore wind event there. meanwhile, the 4 zone forecast today looks like 64 san francisco to the coast around 60. burlingame at 68. looks like we'll do about a 60 foster city mid 70's down in this pocket. palo alto in the south bay round 80 getting close. 79 san jose cupertino about 80 east bay shoreline, lower 70's, but clearly be coupled from tri valley where we're approaching near about 80 81 livermore. 76 danville and 77 walnut creek. 66 berkeley, the laos, 67, 80 coming in at fairfield. 76 napa and we'll do an 87 for santa rosa. so while we may not see a lot of movement going on for this weekend, it will start to move as we get into early next week. again, that front's got to play through tuesday's the big day to get near the mid 90's backing off a little bit into the weekend. but again, we'll be watching those winds as we get into next weekend. the following week. >> okay

for the friends in the sacramento valley, gusting north winds, about 30 to 35 miles per hour into this afternoon. with that low relative humidity, it can drop to 10% this afternoon, stretching all through the east bay in areas like fairfield and vallejo. we will keep a close eye on these conditions. it is fire season and we are keeping a close eye on the wind. it is relatively light for the most part as we wake up, maxing off into the 5 to 10 miles per hour range. this afternoon, it shifts fast. they will be about 20 miles per hour at the surface level near napa and we will continue to watch the wind to strengthen into areas like santa rosa, all the way into the 4:00 hour and closer to dinner time. the red flag warning stays in effect until 7:00 tonight. and the current air quality through the bay area, we see pockets of unhealthy and very unhealthy conditions in the north bay in areas like santa rosa, all the way down to areas like oakland. so if you are noticing symptoms already this morning, take it slow, continue to check in on your loved ones, take good care of yourself by drinkin

so the northern sacramento valley there, elk grove where relative humidity could drop off below 20% atts the areas where we could see the best chance of perhaps a fire, because the grasses and the brush is so dry. and we're looking at the north bay primarily, but into the east bay, the diablo range down through the south bay. this is for today. and things quiet down the winds a little bit overnight. but then more importantly, the relative humidity comes up at its finest at more moisture through the overnight hours. but into monday afternoon, we're back into the very dry conditions. and once again, those breezy offshore winds at the coast. this is where it will be windy. as for your sunday and as we go through the afternoon, notice those reds come into play. that's about a 30 to 35 mile an hour wind gusts from the north bay to the east bay. so it's windier than yesterday. so if you're headed to the ballpark today, it's going to be mild. but with those breezy winds at times up to 25 miles an hour, temperatures in the upper 60s. so average highs at about 67. low 70s over in oakland should

so looking at that red flag warning for the sacramento valley, also out towards the delta and lake countyough 8:00. so it's still breezy to gusty today. the winds switching to an onshore component. and then the fog is back overnight tonight bringing that higher humidity. so what about today? well by 4:00 in the afternoon you can see we're down to about 21% in livermore, 11% in antioch and 23% in napa. so not so great here. and even with that onshore flow, it's going to take an entire night and a return to the marine layer until we see this back to more of normal conditions for thursday, the first day of summer arrives at 150 notice. we've got mid 80s, a pleasant day, 60s at the coast. friday, the heat is on for our inland valleys. we'll warm up along the bay shore some mid 90s inland with some mid 70s around the bay. notice the coast stays comfortable. saturday is your hottest day flirting with 100 inland and temperatures will be in the 80s around the bay shore. the peninsula will be pleasant because we'll still have that sea breeze. so that's a look ahead at the warmer weather. some high

when you get relief are like the sacramento valley boy, the numbers are going to be racing away. we have a little bit of relief because the onshore winds are going to help help insulate us a little bit. and that's why long run the bay. you don't have a problem in the peninsula is why they are not% included in all of this again because of those onshore winds which help out. here's brief look at those winds could becoming somewhat calm right now, but they will pick up tomorrow afternoon in your wake-up forecast says sunny and nice by 10:00am maybe 77 inland. that looks pretty benign. by noon 88 and we're not done in the afternoon. 94. so temperatures really start rocket and moving in the afternoon. we have another date yet to get through. real quickly. want to look at the moisture levels. they do drop off tomorrow afternoon. they're in the 20's and teens with all of this. now we would have a red flag warning with all of this. if these numbers were a little bit lower, but because there's a little bit of that moisture in the atmosphere, not much but a little bit. that helps us out a

friends in the solano county area under a heat warning until thursday, that's a group with the sacramento valley. with some of the warmest temperatures we've seen so far this year. now as we head over to our virtual reality map, look at the contrast of these temperatures. we're still holding on tight to 70s and 60s, anywhere from half moon bay all the way over into san francisco. but that's not the case. this has as we head off into the east bay. triple digits expected for us this afternoon near concord, any ox retching all the way down into livermore to with 90s this afternoon near the santa clara valley. now we talk about these numbers because it's important to remind yourself and your loved ones to drink lots of water, and we're plenty of sunscreen on a day like today, especially if we have loved ones who work outside. it is going to be a hot day for us today if you do work outside find that shady spot, especially in the afternoon hours, while those uv rays are at their strongest now we're sitting in the triple digits today. for many of us off into the east bay. but look at tomorrow. all the

most recently, the parade of atmospheric rivers bringing catastrophic amounts of rain to the sacramento valleyt 800 people live in isleton, a town 8 ft above sea level, and they're pioneering a new strategy to try and tackle the rising flood risks with the help of uc davis researchers. kathleen schaefer: everybody pays a little bit in and everybody gets a little bit. so it's designed to fill the gap that currently exists with the "fema" individual housing assistance program, it's designed to recognize that many people can never afford or will never buy flood insurance. cynthia: flood and other climate-related issues are overflowing across the us, 2023 had the highest number of billion-dollar disasters in the nation's history. and uc davis researchers say, "fewer than 2% of californians have flood insurance," a challenge that's getting cloudier as insurance agencies want out of the state. researchers and residents are pouring their ideas into the program, even with the damp spot of how this policy can work for renters, many of which are on a low or fixed-income, but making insurance a community

the sacramento valley up in the clear lake area, lake county going to watch out there this the forecastwe head towards saturday through monday. and i think the strongest probably by winds 15 to 25 miles an hour sustained, maybe some gust of 40 plus humidity, though, get very dry 10 to about 20%. so i mean, really dry out there. and with the dry brown hills to be in the show up around the bay area. fire conditions are going to be elevated locally here. we're seeing some of that this afternoon, not severe, but it is definitely elevated. see the areas shaded in yellow and orange. there you can see some slight to moderate fire risks out there this afternoon by tomorrow afternoon. maybe some more risk as we see that general seabreeze kick in. but then i think those winds start to ramp up as we get in towards sunday afternoon. that's when watch more. those colors beginning to show up even around the bay area. so got to be careful everywhere around the bay area. not just most places, the red flag warnings. go see some of those gusty winds out there. otherwise winds. yeah, they're going to kind

including those hills and much of the north bay and solano county extending over toward the sacramento valley. we have extremely low humidity developing along with some gusty winds, which elevates the fire danger and so far the smoke has been contained to the north bay. the light blue shading shows a hazy sky, but where you start to see the yellows, the reds, the oranges, that's a little bit more unhealthy air quality and that will begin to spread from the north bay into the east bay as we go into this evening. due to that northerly wind that's going to push more of that smoke across the bay area. there is a spare the air alert for today and tomorrow for the north bay and inland east bay. so we're tracking not only that fire, but the air quality. we'll talk about temperatures and what's ahead in our forecast coming up in a few minutes. marcus around good information to know. thanks, kari. and we are streaming 24/7 on the latest updates. when it comes to the fire, you can use the qr code there on your screen. it's going to get you to our how to page on streaming. or you can search nbc bay area

those were northeasterly winds coming from the sights valley fire on the west end of the sacramento valley. here's the best way to get a handle on that. this is right before sunset. there go the clouds. as they leave they're much higher, that's why they're moving in a different direction. as soon as they left, this huge plume of smoke moved in, and the way the winds were oriented, it directed it right over us. no doubt you saw this. anybody who looked at the sky between 7:00 and sunset no doubt was wondering, what is that? is that the point fire? and it wasn't. what did it do to air quality? if we go to that network of low-cost air quality centers which have a big array, there's a ton of them across the bay, so you get a big picture view, wrote do see one area that has poor air quality. a little bit up in sonoma county. look at napa and fairfield. see that congregation of poor air, that smoke is coming from the point fire. that had gotten fulled into napa valley at the lower elevations and has drifted to fairfield. that's the only place that has bad air quality right now. it all comes back
