it lit up again over the sierra, northeast california, northern sacramento valley. probably see a repeat performance today tuesday sunshine. though not too much fog. there's some there. but we had more yesterday. more sun today. it'll still be nice. we're looking at 60s, 70s and 80s. all right. sal is here and hopefully things are quiet. but you never know. let's ask him. >> yeah, we do have a truck accident, steve. northbound 680 at livorno road. and this one is a jackknife rig. it's blocking all the northbound lanes of 680. and you can see traffic is now backing up from as far back as stone valley road, which is a significant backup. chp tells us it's going to be out there for at least a couple of more hours. so this is going to be a problem for you if you're driving from anywhere. san ramon, danville, trying to get up to walnut creek south down 680 is not affected. but northbound 680 is. and we're going to keep an eye on this. also looking at the bay bridge triple a traffic camera, you will see the traffic is moving along okay. if you are driving there no problem

the fog comes back in earnest all the way across the bay into the sacramento valley.nd then as it pulls back, it should reveal a little bit more sunshine into your sunday afternoon. and then we will see the temperatures respond as we get into by about monday, where the numbers begin to move up through the 80s inland. but we are watching a ridge of high pressure that will potentially bring even warmer temperatures. our way. tuesday. we're into the perhaps 90 to low 90 degree range in our inland valleys, feeling a lot like summer. and then as we get into the first couple of days of august, looks like the heat could return. this is wednesday with temperatures in the mid 90s there. elsewhere, 60s and 70s. so as for your saturday, look for temperatures mainly in the 60s around the bay, mid 70s for you in san jose. look for 71 up in wine country and mid to upper 70s for you in santa rosa. overnight lows back into the 50s, mist and drizzle at the coast and the accuweather seven day forecast. we're cool today. 60s and 70s with slight warming for sunday, monday, little change

notice how it goes towards the sacramento valley.er today. so for most of us, we're looking okay for today when it comes to that possibility of smoke. there is no advisory. there is no spare. the air storm tracker two here we have a trough hanging over the west at this point. going to be with us through the weekend. and then it does shift a little bit getting into the days ahead, but we're not looking at the heat that we had earlier in the week. i'll show you this in the extended forecast. let's focus in on the cloud cover that is in the north bay, the east bay, the south bay through the delta into the sacramento valley. this morning, just showing you how much deeper the marine layer is and how much stronger the onshore breeze is compared to where we have been. here's a look at lunchtime san francisco, most of the peninsula, the east bay shore still dealing with the cloud cover. it's going to be a slow clearing day for many of us. and then into the evening hours. sun setting at 822 san francisco time. those clouds are back as well as

going into the sacramento valley means it's fairly deep so have a much thicker cloud that means it able to missed out a lot more. so you have a little bit of measurable rain. for the last two mornings we have done this. rain along the coast and in the east bay hill so as to look under the clouds. half moon bay, rain, pacifica, san francisco, berkeley, just continuous missed, over time adds up and maybe you get hundredth of an inch of rain because it's not evaporating every thing seems damp when you get out into it to just be ready for that tomorrow morning. a minor factor in this forecast anytime it's measurable it is a big deal. daytime highs tomorrow. even though cloud will be hide spread in the morning by the afternoon it melts back to the immediate coast and city and there will be more sunshine tomorrow than anything else. and the temperatures tomorrow will be identical to where you were today. which is a lot warmer than yesterday but today and tomorrow pretty much the same which means we are going to the low 80s for the inland valleys. still below average. 79 will be the daytime hi

but, going out the window means it is going out past sacramento and going north through the sacramento valley. so tomorrow morning is going to be another one of those days where sacramento wakes up to a marine layer, that means it is particularly robust, that means we are all waking up to gray skies again tomorrow. do you remember how misty it was today? we can pick up a couple hundreds of an inch of rain. and the marine layer was full, it was high enough to get far inland and i want to explain how it does that, it is because of this unique set up of the atmosphere. look at today's numbers, 60s in concord, 77 in san jose. even if the marine layer is coming in just as far tomorrow as it did today, we are going to warm up a little bit more in the afternoon because the cloud will dissipate more by the time we get to the afternoon tomorrow. we will see more blue skies tomorrow and you are going to feel the warm up as a result. so instead of being in the upper 60s tomorrow, you will go back to the 80s. look at livermore, 82. 82 on altamont pass. 79 degrees in san jose and 71 in redwood city. this

but you can pretty much bet sacramento, northern sacramento valley, the adjacent foothills, some moderatethat marine layer that's going to come back quickly. 61 in san francisco. and half moon bay at 70 in hayward, 77 mile degrees in san jose, nice and sunny here. where temperatures are in the low 80s right now. concord 80 in livermore 84 by the delta. so that continual southwesterly breeze through the delta allowing for the transport of that cool marine air. so right now, anywhere from 2 to 5 degrees cooler than we were on sunday. and look at these gusty winds 33 miles an hour at san francisco, sfo, 31 over in oakland. and you can see even hayward. it's breezy, up to about 23 miles an hour. so with the brisk air out there, we have another mild day on tap for your tuesday. and then by the middle of the week, we're warmer inland. we have one day will reach 100 degrees and then by the weekend, looking at continued warm to hot weather inland as high pressure builds in from the south. so on wednesday we warm up nothing to extreme low to mid 90s inland. we still have the 60s and 70s around the

we could expect the numbers especially in the santa clara valley -- the sacramento valley excuse me through the santa clara valley, we're expecting to hit around 105 degrees today. just near san jose. so close to record-breaking numbers. but not necessarily hitting it. we could see record-breaking numbers in areas like concord and walnut creek though. continue to watch the daytime highs this afternoon and let's start off with this morning though. lasting into this afternoon. we are expected to see another day of 80s in the forecast near san francisco and across bay bridge it's sunny as can be in the afternoon hours today with 88 for the daytime highs near oakland. we continue to head off in the east bay. and up into the north bay. the heat is a major concern for us on a day like today. especially as many americans are traveling around for the fourth of july holiday. wanting to do outdoor activities and get some pool time in. do anything outside. right? well, just continue to wear sunscreen as we head into dh afternoon hours today. continue to hydrate and check in on your loved ones and make

air and that higher humidity is reaching its way over into northern california in the northern sacramento valleyhere the park fire continues to burn. and this cooling effect and the additional humidity in the air is helpful. now, this is a massive fire. so there's not going to be a dramatic improvement in the containment of the fire just overnight because of the weather conditions. but the weather conditions have improved. now you notice the smoke being carried generally in an easterly or northeasterly direction away from the bay area. some of that smoke did work its way back into the bay area yesterday, because some shifting of the upper upper level winds, but that smoke is not having an effect on our air quality right now. you can see all the green dots indicating good air quality, and a few yellow dots indicate indicating moderate air quality. so as long as the upper level wind flow near the park fire continues in its current direction, we will probably not have many concerns about that smoke affecting our air quality. now, what is affecting our weather quality is this vigorous onshore flow.

that includes northern sacramento valley, where the park fire is still burning, and you can see the wind the winds aloft carrying that smoke generally to the east northeast away from the bay area, temperatures have dropped considerably in the area of the fire, with increased relative humidity over the last couple of days helping out just a little bit in containment of that fire. meanwhile none of that smoke is affecting air quality here in the bay area. as we generally have good air quality, but we also have some strong wind gusts here up to 35mph at oakland right now, and sustained winds at the surface here in san francisco, 34mph. nonetheless, despite that, onshore flow, that cooling onshore flow, it's quite a bit warmer in most locations right now than at this time yesterday. 15 degrees warmer in concord, 16 in livermore, 13 in novato. so a mild day, but a lot warmer than yesterday. here's a view from mount tam looking down onto the bay. we're at 61 degrees in san francisco, 66. in oakland we have mid to upper 70s at hayward, san jose and redwood city and 57 at half moon bay. and ther

redding on that east side of the sacramento valley, the west side, there will be a little bit of a deltad fairfield and there will be a sea breeze for us here in the bay area. the forecast for tomorrow morning, as it will be a little bit warmer, calls for temperatures 3 to 4 degrees warmer than they were today. not a big deal. and then on thursday, another couple of degrees warmer. and then on friday maybe the same. so again not a major heat wave. just a change. something that, you know just something to hang my hat on because otherwise it's well i could go away, go back here. that this footprint here, when you look at it, it's this thing could literally hold for the next four days in terms of temperatures in the bay area. so as we go forward, even though it's going to fluctuate a little bit, that's it. just a little bit. but those greens and yellows will stay in place. temperatures will look a lot like this right through the bay area weekend. little cooler by the time we get to saturday and sunday, and you'll see that in the five day forecast. there you go. saturday and sunday, back dow

the sacramento valley really around the state. yeah, we're thinking about kids as well as pets not walking on asphalt during this heat. and we are seeing those temperatures really spread out across the bay area. we are at 91 right now in dublin, but compare that to the 86 that we have in san rafael and in san jose and the 70 in san francisco. it's going to be a warm day in parts of the city, but you can see the fog rolling across the bay to keep it cool there. and then as we take a look at the hazy view that we've had all around the inland valleys, our air quality is not all that healthy for today. we're getting high amounts of ozone, as well as wildfire smoke and all the pollutants just being pushed down by this high pressure that's causing this intense heat. and so we're seeing in the east bay and santa clara valley the worst of the air quality as this spare the air alert continues. let's head to danville with a look at what to expect over the next few hours. quickly rising temperatures. right now it is 91. in the next hour it w

so right now it's mainly those areas in the northern sacramento valley and in the northern sierra.nd you can see that smoke moving up just north of susanville right now. let me give you a look at the red flag warning for high fire danger, which will be in effect as of now, expected to be in effect until 11 p.m. gusts up to about 30mph. occasionally, higher gusts, relative humidity still dangerously low. they're only 10 to 15%. and of course, that means increased fire danger. once again, i'll give you a look at that because people have been asking about the smoke from this fire. will it affect us here in the bay area? that is unlikely to happen because right now we have moderate to good air quality in virtually all locations, and that smoke is moving away from the region we're in, moving toward the northeast. dan and ama. >> all right, spencer, thank you so much for keeping track of all that for us. and we're also tracking a new fire. this is in the sunol area. it's burning through the grass along calaveras road near welch creek in the area of sunol regional park. you can see a fair

despite the smoke from the fires over in the northern sacramento valley.w we're looking at calmer wind, but it's been a steady flow all day and things are pretty pleasant outside right now. here's a view from mount tam looking down onto the bay. we haven't seen a deep marine layer forming yet, but a little bit. little by little it's developing 57 degrees in san francisco right now. we have low to mid 60s at oakland, hayward, san jose, redwood city and 57 at half moon bay. the view in emeryville, nice and calm and clear as well. other temperature readings at this hour. looking northward. santa rosa 5855 at petaluma. napa 59 and low to mid 60s at fairfield, concord and livermore. and as we look across the embarcadero from our rooftop camera, these are the forecast headlines. we have a week long warming trend coming our way beginning tomorrow. inland highs will range from 94 to about 98. during this warming period, and the heat will reach its peak early next week, monday and tuesday. so be prepared for temperatures rising up near the triple digit level. meanw

it's getting all the way past brentwood, o into the livermore valley, beyond that, into the sacramento valleywe're starting the day off tomorrow. like we started the day off today, which will give us a day tomorrow, like the day we had today. right. that's just how it's going to work. and it's going to continue to do this for a couple of mornings. so here's tomorrow morning. and what i'm looking at here is the depth of the marine layer just based on topography. look how far inland it got. so it got over the coastal hills. it's deep marine layer goes away. tomorrow is just like today. then we get into wednesday morning. same footprint, same day, essentially a little bit warmer inland. and then we do it one more time on thursday, not quite as much fog, a little more shallow, and thursday afternoon will be a little bit warmer as well. it's a rudimentary way to figure out the depth of the marine layer, but you can do it right if the topography is such that it's, you know, say 1200 feet, 1300 feet in the coastal hills, if the marine layer is getting over that, then the marine layer is probably ove

despite the smoke from the fires over in the northern sacramento valley.ight now we're looking at calmer wind, but it's been a steady flow all day and things are pretty pleasant outside right now. here's a view from mount tam looking down onto the bay. we haven't seen a deep marine layer forming yet, but a little bit. little by little it's developing 57 degrees in san francisco right now. we have low to mid 60s at oakland, hayward, san jose, redwood city and 57 at half moon bay. the view in emeryville, nice and calm and clear as well. other temperature readings at this hour. looking northward. santa rosa 5855 at petaluma. napa 59 and low to mid 60s at fairfield, concord and livermore. and as we look across the embarcadero from our rooftop camera, these are the forecast headlines. we have a week long warming trend coming our way beginning tomorrow. inland highs will range from 94 to about 98. during this warming period, and the heat will reach its peak early next week, monday and tuesday. so be prepared for temperatures rising up near the triple digit level

if you are going to the sacramento valley, they are also dealing with great weather, finally honestly san francisco this weekend, if you're going to stern grove, it is going to be an amazing event, we are expecting 60s throughout the afternoon, a little bit breezy and cloudy but it is beautiful nonetheless. i want to show you what is happening for the afternoon hours today, a lot more bearable weather if you ask me in areas along the coast in the peninsula, we are expecting daytime highs to sit in the 60s near san francisco all the way over into daly city. take a look at what is happening in the santa clara valley, along 101 from redwood city into san jose, 80s insight for us today, 90s off to the east bay this afternoon, that is a lot more bearable, we have been dealing with a lot of triple digit weather recently off in the east bay. the national weather service issued an excessive heat warning for monday into tuesday and we are starting to see that relief in sight. this is a big deal behind me, 90s today, 80s tomorrow, 70s just in time to kick off the weekend and we flirt back and f

it means it will go into the sacramento valley. that is a good onshore surge.only able to do that because it is fairly deep. when you have a marine layer that gets deep like there. one, going farther inland. always deep enough it starts misting out. that has happened now over the last two mornings. it only does it in specific places. it will mist out enough in the coast and in the city we get measurable rainfall out of it. doing it again tomorrow morning. you can see the numbers down here. let's get rid of the clouds. you can see half moon bay, picking up 1/10th of an inch of rain. follow that up, pacifica, san francisco, east bay hills, the east bay hills, you will get a little bit of mist out of this as well. we will do it all again tomorrow. the marine layer does not last all that long. completely gone for the most part. now, unless you are at the beaches. that is what will happen as well. let's use the virtual map. instead of looking at rainfall totals what we want to look at is the impact on day time highs, a lot more numbers now. we will get your part of

beneficial to the bay area and to northern california in general, including the area up in northern sacramento valley, where the park fire has been raging. we're not capturing on on the satellite tonight, an image of the smoke, but the smoke had generally been blowing off to the northeast yesterday. the winds aloft brought some of that smoke down into the bay area. it never came to the surface. it remained aloft. and as you look at the smoke aloft animation going into tomorrow, you can see the upper level winds will be carrying that smoke away from the bay area once again. it never really had any appreciable effect on our air quality, which right now, as you can see, is good, as evidenced by all those green circles around the bay area is likely to remain good going through the next day or two. so here's what you can expect tomorrow as we plan our monday. early in the morning, we'll have lingering fog near the coast and bay temperatures in the upper 50s to about 60 uh- midday hours will bring us more sunshine and a little bit of a warm up to levels greater than what we had for much of the weekend, mid

critical fire weather concerns in many areas of north bay and moving into sacramento valley into the delta and even in san francisco, we've been added to the heat advisory category. so there you have take a look across and really the southern half of these united states. look at all the oranges and magenta singles, hot temperatures stretching up from mexico all the way through phoenix and hot, even into our central valley. it will heat up even more over the next week. yeah, i said week. that's the problem. right now. the hot temperatures triple digits are places such as fresno and sacramento for us cooler along the coast. but that will start to change current temperatures right now. 60's 70's right along the coast. concord has hit 100 degrees at this hour. this is warmer than yesterday. 95 in santa rosa. and of current winds. it's nice to see some of these sea breezes still trying to push the golden gate and pushing into hayward that will keep some moderating effect for us. but overall, we're going to start to see a big changes. this area of high pressure merely strengthens and then

inland valleys up over 100 degrees, especially up in the sacramento valley. the map behind me or the map now in front of you shows you the areas of heat warning, excessive heat warnings and heat watches and heat advisories in yellow, basically. i mean, we're up in northern california. we're up in oregon. it's a west coast event. look at that. all the way up into portland, all the way south down towards vegas, southern california. i mean, you talk about the western grid, power grid taking a hit. so brownouts certainly a real possibility, especially as we get to the middle end of the week because it's going to be again, it's cumulative, like we're all wired for three days of it's like getting too much rain. after a couple of days. you can't manage it all. well. after a couple of days of heat, we're going to have trouble with infrastructure in terms of heat build up and power issues. so as i said, it's just going to be one of those things. it's not the end of the world. it's just something you want to be aware of. air quality is going to take a hit as well, but
