sacred heart community service in san jose began its two day holiday food distribution today , sacredping to meet its goal of distributing 3500 holiday food boxes to local families. anyone who lives in santa clara county is eligibleax program for the first time since the height of the pandemic. what i really need right now is for toys. new toys that folks can donate as well as volunteers to help us get those toys out wednesday and third wednesday, thursday and friday of this week. the toy program aims to distribute nearly 19,000 gifts. this week, people can drop off new toys that their donation station on south first street or donate online at the sacred heart community service website . francisco fire department is reminding shoppers about product safety this holiday season. representatives from the fire department along with the sheriff's office, we're out of union square today, meeting with shoppers they were offering advice and responding to questions on the safety of certain products. part of their effort was to remind people that the holiday should be fun. but safety does come f

early this morning, sacred heart community services needed thousands of gifts. damian trujillo says the nonprofit is now hopeful every child will get a present. >> reporter: it's something they haven't seen here in at least ten years. the toy donations are low by the thousands, so the urgent plea was on today. patricia espinoza is christmas shopping two days before the holiday, picking out toys for her four children. these are toys donated to sacred heart. this way the espinoza family will be able to put a present under the christmas tree. patricia says the donations are a huge blessing for parents in these difficult times. but there's a problem this year. not every child who signed up will get a gift. >> there is urgency today. this is the last day of our toy distribution, and as of right now, we are short on toys. >> reporter: 3,000 toys short, something sacred heart says it hasn't seen in the last ten years. so the agency sent up flares today, urging donors to dig deeper in their pockets so a needy child can have a gift to unwrap on christmas. there are plent

have a good holiday, the bay area rescue mission in richmond, along with sacred heart community services in san jose, gave out boxes of food with all the ingredients for a holiday meal. volunteers for the salvation army were also very busy taking off their angel tree toy distribution in san francisco. families are struggling to make ends meet. and if we can help make things just a little bit easier, we want to be here to do that, and through the generosity of just countless donors with individual corporate, we've been able to provide toys for ages infant through 12, and it's just a remarkable thing. the salvation army plan to give away more than 1000 gifts at this event, along with gift cards for their families. despite the holidays being a time of joy and celebration, it can be a difficult time for the homeless , but one south bay nonprofits, actions today reinforced the meaning of the season. ktvu south bay reporter jesse gary has the story. san jose's corinthian ballroom, a boisterous atmosphere that's part pep squad and part emotional pampering. downtown streets seem we are cheerlead
