supervisor safai? >> supervisor safai: yes. thank you, miss kirschbaum, the flat wheels, i didn't see anything in your presentation, but that was the real reason that i wanted to have this presentation. what we learned from previous presentations is there's the way you all are training or have asked the operators to operate these vehicles is to hit the emergency mushroom versus using the manual break. the mushroom worked well, i think on the older brada -- is that how you say it? >> brada. >> supervisor safai: i heard a life span of 100,000 miles versus 120,000. i know it is a mechanism that you just talked about. you'd have to ask the contractor, siemens to retrofit and change. what's the cost of that overall to the entire system to fix that defect that was not known before purchase? >> it's about 30,000 per vehicle and about $5 million to $6 million total. >> supervisor safai: so is that something you'll have to come back for approval or is that something you're asking the t.a. for? >> it's build into the package and prop k i

supervisor safai? >> supervisor safai: yes. how often does this happen? i saw the plot map. this line cuts through a lot of different homes. it's a very unusual -- rather than making the boundary even, i mean, obviously, at some point it was drawn at an angle. so sometimes the boundary between daily city and san francisco cuts through some of the homes, so half the home is in daily city, half the home in san francisco. how often have you dealt in this area with the infrastructure requests in terms of sewer, in terms of the street, in terms of the maintenance of the right-of-way. and how is that impacting development over there? >> for dedications, it's not very frequent. it is very common for the county line to go through private property. and we're actually in the process of surveying it to bring it in tighter, to know where it is. but as far as cases like this, it's not happening too frequently as far as dedicated. in this situation, the -- i do have an overhead i could show you. >> supervisor safai: the majority of the homes reside in daley city? >> all of them, all of th

commissioner safai. >> supervisor safai: thank you, supervisor fewer. thank you, supervisor haney for the comments. i think it's right on. one of the things that i have heard over the years in office now is that there is a lot of good intentions going on between the planning department, oewd, building, but there doesn't seem to be as much as we've strived to do that, there still needs to be more work to coordinate and streamline. we hear great stories, but then we also hear horror stories. there needs to be a general understanding. i like the presentation to have a point person. but not everyone knows to go there first. if i'm a restaurant owner, i'm going to figure out the type of lease i'm going to get. i might not even know if the space is permitted for that when i'm signing my lease. sometimes that happens. i go over to building and planning and i'm working through that and then all of a sudden, i find out that public health wants a whole different set of materials that building was not aware of, because they don't know the certain types of tiles or

supervisor safai spoke to the timeline. it will be fairly quick. we'll begin construction in october. the site is planned to open in november and we will run for right about a year. again, do you to the limited duration of the site we'll keep costs low, utilizing quick 'em employment. no permanent utility infrastructure. we'll work within the existing great of the site. we won't touch rail tracks or stoppers which is that lovely picture to the right there and we'll be using all temporary facilities. so the location is 2340 san jose avenue. we'll have a 33 parking spots. three are designated for staff use and the rest will be a mix of standard a.d.a. and van or r.v. parking. we'll be keeping the existing gate that exists around the site. we'll be adding new secured vehicle and pedestrian gates as well as we'll be adding the tennis screening to the existing chain-link fence to provide privacy. we will be bringing in an office trailer for our 24/7 staff to use. and we will be providing access to toilets, sanitation stations and a shade canopy. again,

and we are joined by vice chair safai. >> good afternoon.'m here today to present the historic preservation commission recommendation to designate 2031 bush street as article 10 landmark. the building is located on bush street in the japantown and is known as the kinmon gakuen build. it was part of the civil rights project which was funded by an underrepresented community grant by the national park service. they unanimously recommended designation on april 3, 2019. constructed in 1926, the kinmon gakuen building represents only one of four purpose-built community facilities in japantown, whose construction was funded by and for the local american-japanese community. it was with the u.s. citizens of world war ii. at the home of the booker t. washington community services center, from 1942 to 1952 which provided the african-american youth with educational and recreational facilities. the period of significance for the building is 1926 to 1952. and the designation includes both exterior and interior character-defining features. for over a centu
