let's hear from one of the voters in saginaw. thank you for joining us.ou feeling ahead of the election. what issues are helping you make up your mind? >> the issues that are pushing my voting perspective is women's rights, trans rights, lgbtq rights. you were talking about the atrocities in gaza and that is a huge motivation for me to vote for harris and walz without question. reporter: in terms of life in saga -- saginaw, there are a lot of boarded up businees and derelict properties, is that something you are concerned about, jobs and housing? >> of course, i feel like the separation but between the upper classes and lower classes has never been further apart, especially in communities like saginaw. reporter: we have seen how close the community is in terms for support for harris and trump. can you have a discussion and discuss the pros and cons of ea candidate? >> in terms of trump there aren't a lot of pros in my opinion. harris and walz, going back on women's rights i can't justify. pros all harris, cons all trump. reporter: you're getting a lot of

here in saginaw city, as i say, it's very mixed. tommy, how are you feeling about the election? who are you going to vote for and why? i will vote for donald trump this year. i am typically a democrat. i voted democrat every year until donald trump ran for office. this year and in the past, i voted for donald trump. the reasons has been economical, primarily. three and a half years ago, i made more money. i paid less taxes. gas prices were cheaper. now everything has tripled, including grocery prices. i can go to subway to get a $7 sandwich for six inches now. they used to be half that price — $3. so everything is double. my grocery prices are doubled. i'm concerned about the border. we've let millions of people in, a lot of criminals, etc. the border needs to be shut down to where we only bring in those individuals that go through a legal process. i don't... and when democrats were running for office like they're proposing now, they have this proposal of new homeowners getting a stipend of money to buy a house. well, nothing is fre

saginaw is famous for how much of a bellwether it is. they declared saginaw the swing county that could decide this election. to put that into perspective. in 2016, donald trump won saginaw by 1%. about a thousand votes. years later biden won by 303 votes out of 100,000 votes cast. saginaw county makes up the most purple district in the country, quite literally. there are exactly 217 districts that are redder than michigan's eighth. and 217 districts that are bluer than michigan's eighth. so there are only a handful of places in this country where every individual vote matters as much as they do in saginaw county. which is why i went down to saginaw this week to talk to a key constituent, in a key state that the presidential candidates are trying to court, union members. 21% of those votes were from union households. one in five. president biden made the union workers a part of his campaign. he was the first president to walk the picket line right here in the state of michigan. he elected judges who support union rights. and biden's chip
