in other words, i wasn't concerned what's going on down in saigon. i wasn't too concerned with what was going on in my battalion. my battalion commander was 130 miles away by helicopter. so he didn't get up to see us too often. i really -- if you think, 24 years old, i didn't have a lot of adult supervision. but we were very fortunate. we did have a couple people killed and several injured while i was there, but that happens in those kinds of wars. when i left -- actually, i closed out my unit. in october of '70, they said you're going to shut down. by november 20th, we had everything brought in from that connecticut-sized terrain, and had everything turned in, which was difficult, because i had to turn my -- our people had to go through nha trang. we had to turn in all our equipment in qing an, which was quite a different place. that was all done in an khe. we had to do it in specific time lines. very challenging. i was fortunate when i left vietnam. i went to europe for 4 1/2 years. i was at nato. then i came to for the leavenworth. and resigned my
