saint helena at 100, but not everybody was at 100 today, and thankfully so. we do have some fog here at the coastline that's helping to keep us at a chilly 59 half moon bay, 71, in san francisco. not too bad in napa at 84. san jose 91. so a lot of that strongest heat really was building across contra costa alameda counties today. so let's take you out here. this hourly forecast in livermore 103. right now we'll stay in the one hundredths. the next hour. and man this is going to be a tough one to get through here. if you're having problems with your air conditioning or you just don't have one by chance back here in the tri-valley, we're going to be in the mid to upper 90s through 7:00 tonight, 88 and 9 p.m. and eventually we get to some 70s here through ten and 11:00. again not as bad in san jose. just 91 degrees. so it's a warm summer day for us 80s here six and 7:00 and then some 70 starting at 9:00 tonight. and in san francisco you can see some of this fog right now. that's what helped to save us from getting too hot in sf 71 currently. and some 60s later o

in places like saint helena, fairfield, livermore and many mid to upper 90s and other inland locations. so as you can see, it's still very hot out there, potentially dangerously hot, but it's several degrees cooler right now than at this time yesterday. as you can see on the 24 hour temperature change. so that shows we're moving in the right direction. so here's something to encourage us all. tomorrow's highs will not reach triple digits. we'll see some mid to upper 90s in the inland areas which is still quite warm but not nearly so hot as we've seen the last few days. by friday, we're expecting inland highs to reach only into the low to mid 80s, and by saturday barely 80 degrees. so this is a nice extended cooldown coming our way. it's just it's so refreshing. i just want to take the day off, but i feel that way every day. i'll have the full accuweather seven day forecast on abc seven news at four. kristen, you say that, but no, you don't think so. you're right. i don't. i love being here. here i am all right. >> an east bay animal rescue is taking an innovative approach to addressing

areas now at 92 livermore 94 danville and concord 96 at brentwood and up in the north bay, 96 at saint helena. so it's a bit cooler and much more comfortable as the marine layer has started to rebuild and is giving us some cooling relief. but it won't last long. we are still in a heat wave, a severe heat wave as a matter of fact. so the excessive heat warning we've been talking about the last several days remains in effect until 11 p.m. wednesday. and let's move along. take a look at what's happening at the coast where the marine layer is building a little bit. we've got a nice cooling onshore flow, high pressure that had compressed the marine layer the last few days is edging eastward. so that's allowing the marine layer to build a little bit of a stronger cooling influence. so tomorrow will be well, just about as mild as today was still warm enough but not super hot. and tuesday will be even cooler inland. even it will may suggest that the heat wave is ending, but that is not the case. look at wednesday. temperatures bounce right back into the triple digits in most inland areas on wednesday

saint helena 95. brentwood 95. concord 94. morgan hill also at 94. now what we have happening that's really helping to lower these temperatures is some milder air. with the storm track just moving a little bit closer. and that fog at the coastline really helping to push some of that heat right there off to the east. so as we start off tomorrow morning, a little bit of fog in the bay area, 50s and 60s. we should get up to about 77, 11 a.m. by 1 p.m. we're at 86 now. here we go again. high pressure bringing back the one hundredths as soon as wednesday. right now, looks like we could be in for about a three day event here for us with heat warnings and advisories for much of the state, we'll have closer look at that forecast coming up later on in the show. raj jeff, thank you. well, here's an incredible story. a group of 13 young hikers are safe tonight. and back at home, the trail that they were hiking was cut off by a fire near lake tahoe. it's the same fire spewing ash into truckee. it's called the royal fire and it's burning right now in the rugged t

fireworks were postponed due to the high temperatures expected across the bay area this week, but the saint helenaire department says it will help keep community members cool. the department's truck 17 is going to be providing a spray zone, which means every 30 minutes the trucks, hose will spray water from the top of its ladder. also new. at 730, the city of oakland made another major fireworks bust for the second day in a row. police were called to sixth avenue near east 15th street that's not far from lake merritt. officers say they saw a group of people near a car. then immediately left once they saw the police arrive. police investigated that area and that is where they found more than 500 pounds of illegal fireworks, all in plain view. officers towed and impounded the vehicle for the unlawful possession of dangerous fireworks. the confiscated fireworks have been turned over to the oakland fire department for proper disposal. well, san jose officials are reminding people about the dangers of fireworks, telling them to leave it to the professionals. san jose mayor matt mehan and the san jose f

we know we all felt it out there today, especially throughout the east bay. 109 livermore, saint helena, 109 brentwood 109 concord 108 morgan hill at 106. and when you compare these to the records, we did set a brand new record, smashing the old record of 102 set back in 1999, in concord, with 108 not good enough for a record in livermore at 109. the record that still stands is 111, and we tied a record here in santa rosa at 102. now still very, very hot through those inland valleys with upper 90s in concord and livermore. but check it out. some fog at the coastline right now, some cooler 50s and 60s, half moon bay to san francisco. it's going to be slow to drop off in those hottest inland valleys. we're still at 92. at 9 p.m, 11 p.m, 85, and even 81 at one in the morning. we are going to see numbers drop. this weekend. but here's the other thing. the way the weather pattern is setting up with high pressure and low pressure, it's going to bring in tropical moisture and the chance of thunderstorms. we'll have more looks at that coming up later on in the show. raj we'll see you shortly. t

morgan hill, 101 saint helena. right there at 100. okay. next 24 hours tomorrow. what are we looking for? we're looking at the hottest day of the heat wave coming our way tomorrow. and i really think the zone where we're going to see some of the hottest temperatures is going to be inland. contra costa, alameda counties again, look out there towards concord and antioch, 108 nine and 109. brentwood, maybe even 110 livermore 108 danville 105. and then you get out here towards fremont. that's a hot day for you. 96 we're going to see those temperatures surge pretty fast to 75 at 7 a.m. for those inland valleys, 90 3:11 a.m. by 1 p.m. or 102. and then we would get into those 105, 106, seven, eight and nines later on in the afternoon. it almost seems like that kind of mid august time when we get these scorching temperatures. but it sounds early july. yeah, we're now going to be tracking onto our eighth day of triple digit temperatures as we head into tomorrow's forecast. so here's the thing i know everybody wants to know okay, when are we going to cool down? if you're in

it's 104 right now at santa rosa and saint helena, 103 at fairfield and brentwood, 101 at concord. 100 degrees at livermore, danville and ukiah, and even locations that haven't hit triple digits are in the upper 90s. now, as i'm pointed out, this heat advisory remains in effect for all of the bay area except locations right around the bay shoreline and the coast until 11:00 tonight. at that point, we expect this heat advisory to be lifted, but until then, the heat is excessive, and under these conditions, there's an increased risk of heat related illnesses. now, tomorrow we'll see some pretty good relief inland. highs tomorrow will reach only into the low to mid 90s. we're talking about an 8 to 10 degree drop in many locations from today's highs. even cooler weather is expected on sunday, but early next week, well, monday we'll see triple digits developing again and this wave of heat next week may actually be a heat wave lasting several days. i have all the details on that a little bit later. uh- ama. >> all right. thank you spencer. we'll check back and p-g-and-e's warning customers o

we did get up to 102 in saint helena, walnut creek, 101 livermore 100 campbell. also there at 100. and when you look at the current temperatures right now, we're still holding on to the most heat across inland. contra costa, alameda counties, 98 here in concord, 99 in livermore. but some fog at the coastline already helping to drop us 81 here in napa. and not too bad in san jose right now at 90. so through tomorrow we have our heat warnings and advisories in place. i think the hottest will be inland contra costa, alameda counties, temperatures in the 90s to low one hundredths. we'll get into some low humidity 15 to 25. there's going to be a breeze out of the west, 10 to 20. that breeze, though, will be responsible for keeping the coastline and san francisco out of the 90s and 100. so not expecting super hot weather at the coast. but overall, that will elevate the fire danger. now, on top of this, check this out. we are looking at some monsoonal moisture moving in from the south. we'll take a look at some thunderstorm chances for california back with that full forecast. even a look

as you look at the current 109 in saint helena right now, 104 in sonoma and santa rosa, concord, 105 degrees right now, 104 in livermore, even around the bay shoreline, it's 98 in hayward. so it's hot everywhere except at the coast. so let's talk about the heat alerts. we have an excessive heat warning that has been extended now in effect until next tuesday. that's for virtually all of the bay area. the area there in the red or the darker color. now those areas in the orange are that's where an excessive heat advisory is in effect. that's for the bay shoreline for san francisco and for port parts of the santa cruz area. now we move along to the red flag warning for high fire danger. that's in effect all also has been extended until friday at 5 a.m. that includes the santa cruz mountains, the east bay hills, and the interior mountains of the north bay. winds will be gusting up to 30mph at times, generally out of the north northeast, with humidity as low as 10. you can see why that increases fire danger. and speaking of fires, we'll take you to the location now of that fire in the nort

we did get up to 102 in saint helena morgan hill 101 campbell coming in at 100. and when you compare this to the records not nearly good enough to hit the records, we would have had to hit 112. in concord, 111 here in livermore. so thankfully not that hot now. heat warnings and advisories. i still have them up here for the north bay, east bay and south bay. temperatures tomorrow in the 90s to low one hundreds. we'll get into some low humidity and the teens wind out of the west 10 to 20. that westerly wind is an ocean breeze, so that will keep the coastline. thankfully, out of the 90s and one hundredths, but still overall will elevate that fire danger. coming up, we'll take a closer look at the temperatures for tomorrow. also some thunderstorms in california. i'm back with that later on in the show. okay, jeff thank you. another headline tonight. why can't delta airlines catch up. delta struggling with the fourth straight day of delays and cancellations across the country. the problem started with that global tech outage on friday. that outage disrupted everything

. >> the events for the 4th of july in saint helena will be at crane park. there's going to be live music a spray zone. that will be nice to cool off food vendors and a parade. many park still closed because of this extreme heat and the fire conditions. state parks has been monitoring those conditions, including humidity, winds and temperatures. and that's been a part of the decision-making in closing these parks. they also say that they could remain shut down for several more days. this includes mount diablo state park in contra costa county. they closed yesterday across the east bay east bay regional parks is also closed. the majority of the inland sparks because of the extreme fire danger and the heat, the east bay regional parks district says that some of those parks may reopen friday. probably not likely, though. there's also some park closures around the bay area in san mateo and are in counties even though the 4th of july is tomorrow, fireworks are still banned in all of those parks. cal fire ij asking that you can do everything pleas to make sure tha

we're now up to 104 in livermore, 102 in walnut creek, brentwood, 102 morgan hill, 101 and saint helena right there at 100 and getting that 100 for today. that is really upping our confidence that by the time we get to tomorrow, we certainly will have some temperatures reaching as high as 110. so we want to get that out of the way. tomorrow will be the hottest day of the week, so let's get a look at the numbers overall. and it wasn't that hot everywhere. and that's because we had the fog as expected at the coastline. so 61 and half moon bay 72 san francisco. not too bad in napa at 86. and there's that sweltering 104 in livermore and 89 right now in san jose. so the thing that's producing this heat is this area of high pressure. it's moving right over california. and then by tomorrow this is going to start to move a little bit more off to the east. and it's just going to set up the perfect pattern here to really funnel in even hotter air from the desert. so that's why we have our heat warnings and advisories in place. only spot not included in this is the immediate coastline and san fran

up north, cloverdale stopped its sale of fireworks because the red flag conditions and the heat saint helena and napa county is postponing its fireworks show. the city says the show will go on at a more favorable time, weather wise, and oroville's 4th of july fireworks have also been canceled because of the thompson fire. you can get a full list of the events that are still happening on our website, ktvu.com. now. expect more officers on the road tonight. the california highway patrol's maximum enforcement period officially began about an hour ago and runs until this sunday at midnight, chp says the officers will be on the lookout for speeding, intoxicated or unsafe drivers during last year's maximum enforcement period for the 4th of july, 68 people were killed in crashes around the state and more than 1200 people were arrested for dui during that period. in oakland, police will also increase their presence throughout the city over the fourth, they will be focused on preventing illegal fireworks, celebratory gunfire, and sideshows, posing as police and robbing people. coming up, the warning
