sal has an update on the roadways.is standing by. >> we have slow traffic from san -- to san francisco from oakland. it is robust at the bay bridge toll plaza. we've had a lot of slow traffic in the last half hour to 40 minutes. this seems it is the busy part of the commute getting into san francisco. we're also looking at san francisco itself. this is northbound 101 on the left. approaching the 80 split. it is just moderate. we see slow traffic on northbound 101 from about the 280 interchange up to cesar chavez exit. then it is better for the drive up to the 80 split. northbound is beginning to slow down as you drive into downtown oakland. typical commute patterns here. i see slow traffic also in hayward, for example, as you drive south. in san jose, we do see slow traffic on 85 and 280 taking more shape. northbound 101 is slow. no major problems but we have slow traffic in the valley. at 8:02, let's go back to the desk. >> thank you, sal. >>> san francisco city hall lit up last night in the colors of the trans-flag.

now let's go back to gasia. >> thank you, sal. we will start in the east bay war an overnight fire tore through a building in downtown lafayette. the chamber of commerce along with several businesses went up. fire crews say this morning that building is a total loss. the fire broke out just before midnight at lafayette circle near the bart station. allie rasmus is at the scene where people who work there are now arriving, allie, and seeing the damage for themselves. >> reporter: yeah. a lot of disappointment understandably after taking a look at this building. there were two separate buildings and office buildings connected by a breezeway. this is all that is left of it. at least nine businesses were impacted by the fire. nine businesses that were housed here including that italian restaurant and the lafayette chamber of commerce was here, a hair salon, accounting firm and other small businesses. the building is a total loss. to give you an idea where this is, this building is short of tucked away on lafayette circle. next to it i

i'm sorry, sal. had the weather conditions been different, had it been a windy night, the fire marshal says the outcome could have been worse. it could have easily spread. this is the damaged behind us. it was a two story building. actually two buildings connected by a breezeway. you can see it is completely destroyed. this morning we have seen a lot of folks come back who worked here, taking in and looking at the damage for themselves. a lot of shock and disbelief and disappointed, understandably upset faces out here. investigators have not been able to go inside to figure out where and how it started. according to the fire marshal this morning, there were initial reports that it may have started in the restaurant that is on the ground floor in the back of the building. but that is just some of the initial call that's they got. the cause and location of the fire is still very much under investigation. at least nine businesses were destroyed in this fire. this two-story building housed that italian r

sal, you had a couple of things. south bay. >> yeah. we're going to start with breaking news why san francisco. one of our traffic cameras has picked up a fire in the vicinity of 7th near townsend. we can see it with one of our cameras here. in fact, the traffic is going to be -- if we pull back, you can see that it is going to be smoke rising. now, the fire department is on the scene. and just to give you a perspective as to where this is, this -- over here, this is highway 101. over here is 280. so there is 101 and 280. so this smoke is coming up from about 7th and townsend. the fire department too busy to talk to us right now. we see the smoke coming up. we will let you know more. the smoke has dissipated. it is white smoke. we will keep you posted on what is going on. this is a look at the bay bridge toll plaza. traffic is going to be okay if you are driving into san francisco. it is a typical delay of about 25 to 30 minutes. nothing oust the ordinary. there is a daytime baseball game today. remember that. that will affect traffic.

at 7:41, let's go to sal.'s head out the door and see what is going on out there. >> good morning, rosemary. we're looking at the freeways and still following some of the traffic in oakland. so far it doesn't look too bad. the traffic is beginning to slow down in the normal commute spots on 880 and 580. but when the fire was roaring, you could see it from all over the place. however, there are no major problems in oakland when it comes to the richmond bridge and traffic is recovering after that earlier crash. we were talking about highway 24 and some of the other freeways near the fire. and you can definitely see it. in fact, we have our emryville cam radio looking up at the hills here. you can see there is the freeway below. and everything is moving along pretty well. and fortunately this has been a pretty light day as you can see downtown oakland here as kevin follows it. so when we move back to the fire, you definitely can see where it is. but it has not thankfully affected the freeway traffic in the area.

we want to check the highways with sal. >> good morning, sal. >> right now traffic is doing very well in some areas, it is slow approaching the bay bridge as it normally would be, but we do have some good news, if you are coming to the bay bridge, and that would be that traffic is just a little better and if you look, this is my indicator here, look at that ramp, it is a ramp from coming in from 880, the ramp i like to use when that i am suppose today use something else here. this ramp looks pretty good coming in on down. if you are driving into san francisco and you are using fast track and you use that ramp you will be waiting for very little. if you are driving in car pool lane, the same thing goes, looking in and out of downtown oakland. we even have a smallish back up on highway 4. this is not very typical, but we will take it a little bit of slow ago approaching the pass grade and that's about it. we're having a nice friday here as you drive-thru as we switch to south bay we do have slow traffic on northbound 101 from near the capitol expressway, getting up into san jose. easy a
