alright thanks, sal. san jose police are looking for two men after shooting at a public library. it happened after one man chased another into the hillview branch of the library that's on hopkins drive near fisher middle school, which is on the east side of the city. this all happened at 3 30 yesterday afternoon. what about 20 people, including children and staff members were inside. none of them were hurt. police do believe the shooting is gang related, but so far no one has been arrested. it's really concerning, especially with everything that's going on in our country already. i mean, the fact that you know this is what , like five steps from my house and i hear about gun violence. it's kind of crazy. you always think it's never going to hit home and then it's around the corner. police say the neighborhood is not known for having high incidences of violence there. other neighbors have another concern, though that library was supposed to be their polling place for today's election, and now it's closed.

anyway, thank you, sal., i want to say a few words, very briefly, about the january 6th hearings that were highlighted last night. the insurrection on january 6th is one of the darkest chapters in our nation's history. a brutal assault on our democracy, a brutal attack on law enforcement, some losing their lives, and we heard about it last night again. it's important the american people understand what truly happened and to understand that the same forces that led january 6th remain at work today. it's about our democracy itself. we have to protect our democracy. i know it sounds corny to say it. we're all raised in school, democracy, every generation has to protect it. i have to admit to you, i never thought that it was going to be this straightforward a challenge before. the rule of law matters in democracies, and we're seeing how the battle for the soul of america has been far from won. but together, we can unite, democrat and republican, and allow no one to place a dagger at the throat of our democracy.
