sal castanedo is live in oakland with the warning from firefighters here in northern california. good afternoon, sal. >> reporter: tori, good afternoon. i want to show you the sign here next to one of the fire stations in oakland. you can clearly see it's already at high. if it seems fire season is early, you would be partially correct. firefighters say in reality fire season from last year has never ended. today, calfire officials along with local fire chiefs joined together to kick off wildfire awareness week. firefighters say drought conditions have led to a significant increase in wildfires. although most of the big fires have been in southern california, calfire says it has responded to more than 1200 wildfires all over the state compared to about 600 by this time in an average year. >> we're only in may and we're seeing conditions that we would normally see in august, and all of that leads us to -- and led us to prepare much earlier than we normally would, bringing resources on early and moving them around the state. >> governor jerry brown says he's committed to providing f

sal castanedo explains how the girl was found and what questions still remain unanswered. good afternoon, sal. >> reporter: tori, good afternoon. the little girl was taken to this police substation in east oakland. she arrived here at about 8:30 in the morning. police say they are still trying to figure out how she went missing in the first place. police say the 7-year-old was found safe at this church. the east oakland faith deliverance center, when she wandered in during a prayer service. belinda said the girl told herl she was lost. that's when she said she took the girl home and had her spend the night. she said it wasn't until she saw her picture on tv that she knew she was missing. >> it's a good feeling. it's a good feeling. detectives were so excited, you know, when we drove up with her. we were so happy to see her on the news. >> reporter: the fifl was reported missing at about 6:00 p.m. from her home a few blocks away from where she was found. girl's mother was emotional when she said she didn't know how this could happen. >> really deep down inside it hurts to ha
