emily: salesforce has been a big acquirer.o you continue to buy companies without losing focus, without getting bloated? marc: well, number one, acquisitions are hard no matter who you are. and i can tell you firsthand, after doing 25 acquisitions over the last five years, acquisitions are hard. but you can transform your company through acquisitions. and the other thing that acquisitions do is they bring all these incredible people into your company, and if you can nurture those people, well then, you can end up with phenomenal results. emily: so what do you do from within to overcome the hard part, and the challenges when you -- when you buy another big company? marc: the number one thing you've got to do is you've got to be, as a ceo, you have to choose which one you are going to be in, because it's going to dramatically increase the success of it. i only have so much time. [laughter] emily: right. marc: so where i spend my time is super important. and i kind of divide my time into four quadrants. and in a certain quadrant,

what will that do to your relationship with salesforce? things look bleak. some of the stocks are trading? isn't an stock market indication of economic growth in the world. certainly you have challenges in the world. china and oil. when we met last year, it was a $2 trillion economy and it is not. neverso, the dollar has been stronger. so companies who are reporting the dollar are going to start looking weaker than they actually are. i know you haven't had a chance yet, because you are trapped up here but there are a lot of people who are optimistic about the economy. people don't realize the economy goes through an extension. and downs, there is a season for everything. the reason we come here to davos is to work on that muscle of how to build stakeholder companies. stephanie: you have had an extraordinary run. we are looking at many companies that are struggling. do you think that will continue as we beef up the muscle. will you focus on acquisitions? marc: we focus on acquisitions all the time. but does this environment make it more attractive? know, when

for internet companies that dropped a lot today like amazon, google, or salesforce, i don't think what happened in china has any relevance. a new company that's an and or enterprise software firm, if the global economy slows down, maybe, but i don't see a whole a lot of sign that was happening in china is a global contagion. it's nothing to do with china. it's to do with sentiment. max was talking about tax related reasons. i think that's sage. and a smart point he made is that this could have a negative effect on some of these wildly overvalued private companies. emily: max, let's talk about that a little bit. is this just one bad day or is this the start of what could be a not so great year? max: it's just one bad day. a troubled year began in august. we are having a discussion in tech now that shows how much ,xcitement there is around tech what the future is, and how much the excitement around tech can be off. to see moreeed fundamental performance from our pre-ipo and post-ipo tech companies. we are going to see a more skeptical lens focused on the space. it is still going to grow.

to put that in context, i think salesforce -- it is a super scalable model.e still super early in this. >> is that end of your goals right now to snipe those whales? -- sales? to say we need to convert these people have a significant user base using java box into paying business customers? >> it's such a big opportunity. if anything, our customers have pulled us up into these bigger companies. we had a huge market with the other stuff we are doing. we have been spending a lot of time growing our sales team. we hired an awesome new leader in sales, thomas hansen. who helped spearhead that transition the office made to the cloud when he was there. >> is working mostly international or local? >> there's opportunity everywhere. it's roughly evenly split. >> how many people here use dropbox? >> all right. seems like the majority. how many of you actively transfer files in and out once a month? a little less. how do you count those active users? do you count it as people who just hide items -- hot items they are saving or do you count it as people actively utilizin
