salma abdelaziz, cnn, london. >>> director of the european gaza hospital is joining us now from kahn yunis. thank you for taking the time. what have the last 24 hours in your hospital been like? >> thank you very much for inviting me. we are ste hare at the hospital the beginning of the violence we are received tens and tens of injured people and we have difficulty with more because of the capacity. you can imagine that the icu beds is full. even the normal beds for the patients is full. and all medical supplies especially related to the anesthesia. so the situation in my hospital getting worse and worse minute by minute. >> what are the types of essential supplies -- you mentioned anesthesia -- and medical support that you are most short of? >> yeah, as everybody know gaza strip under siege for many years. and so we have a deficiency from the beginning of the main supplies. and it is worse and worse because we are receiving too many injured person here who need a lot of medical care and surgical care. so it is getting worse and worse. and equipment and supplies which we need for the

salma abdelaziz joins us from london.been covering this from the beginning and what's happening in gaza. give us a sense of what that might mean, this whole transition period at the end of the conflict. >> i think that's extremely vague, sara. the first question that comes to mind is transition to what? hamas is the government of gaza, what comes after that? you're also hearing this debate about cease-fire, cessation of hostilities, a pause, the u.s. calling for a pause and something the rights groups, the u.n. and civilians on the ground are of course, begging and pleading for the secretary-general saying that what we're seeing inside gaza is no longer a humanitarian crisis, but a crisis of humanity. some 2 million people cut off from food and water as they are bombed and besieged for over a month now. i want you to take a listen to how john kirby put it to our kate just a short time ago. >> we believe that there has to be space and opportunity for multiple pauses in the fighting to allow for aid to get in and people to

salma abdelaziz joins me from london.re is such desperation there and such heartache there and you see these people literally on foot carrying what they can trying to get out of the line of fire. what more can you tell us about what is happening on the gaza strip? >> yes. so you had these short corridors. it was a five-hour window. yesterday there was a four-hour window opened up by the israeli military, and i say opened up. that doesn't mean the fighting stopped and you can hear booms and bangs behind those families as they flee, but those roads opened up so they can much southward. many of the civilians in videos that we obtained from the ground describing absolutely harrowing journey, sara, walking for miles and miles on foot. you have to remember they are only carrying what they can with them. that might be a baby, an elderly baby or the last bottle of water that they can bring and where they are fleeing to is not safe either, sara. there have been air strikes in the south and that's an area that's been overwhelmed wi

salma abdelaziz has our records. >> reporter: if you're still in northern gaza, this is what life looksike now, the hard of a battle zone. may god protect us, this man says. those who do not have the means to leave will have to stay where we are. it's as if they sentenced us to death. the israeli military still calls on all residents to move south. it's the forced exodus of an entire population, palestinians say. some are unable or unwilling to heed the warning. thousands are taking shelter at hospitals. medical staff, loyal to a duty of care. this doctor says he's sent his family away, but he will stay behind. what can be done? there is no safety, he says. that's why it's best to get my family out, so i can focus on treating patients. on wednesday alone, as many as 50,000 people made the perilous journey south with the time-limited corridors set up by the israeli military. >> they understand that hamas has lost control in the north and the south is safer, a safer area where they receive medicine, water and food. they understand it's an improvement. >> reporter: but the south is not saf

cnn's salma abdelaziz is joining us now. what's the latest that you are learning about this, salma?ntil this hour, kate, we still understand that families are desperately digging under the rubble trying to see if they can find survivors and trying to see if they can find the bodies of their loved ones to bury. you have to remember some of the residential buildings that were flattened in an instant were 20 stories high. so just imagine the impact, the pancake, the rubble, the rebar and there is a lack of resources. there is a lack of help on the ground, food, fuel, water. much of that has been cut off because of the complete siege imposed on the gaza strip. hospitals and paramedics and ambulances, they are on the brink. that means oftentimes you are looking at the survivors of this attack digging with their own bare hands looking for their family members. calms were also severely disrupted right after this attack and we are only just starting to receive some of the images of what took place last night. i just got one video of a man just screaming because he realized three of his chil

salma abdelaziz joins us now. what are you hearing about this? >> as you mentioned, john.'ve done a great job there, of course, of laying out what we are trying to ascertain so far. this is something that just happened. we are seeking to obtain more information and important for our viewers to understand that things are extremely limited inside the gaza strait. getting information out is difficult, but what we know is there was yet another massive explosion in the jabalya refugee camp. a bit of content, this is not a refugee camp, these are historical terms and this is one of the most densely populated places in gaza. you are looking at an area where families were living with families were living with families. so any time a residential building is struck, is leveled, is hit, you are talking potentially about many, many, many dead. you can imagine the fear here this morning after already people were still digging for survivors, still digging for the dead from yesterday's attack only for another one to occur yet again today. now jabalya is in the north of the gaza strip rig

cnn's salma abdelaziz has more on this and she's joining us now.hat more are you learning about what happened here and what israel is saying today? >> reporter: yes, and our teams have pushed israeli military spokespeople further on the civilian casualties. they do acknowledge that this is a residential area. they called the civilian casualties a tragedy of war but i want to explain what that tragedy looks like. first of all, coms were severed shortly after the bombs dropped on the jacamp. a man was holding up the names of 15 people, 15 relatives. he says his sister's family, his brother's family, everyone he knows was killed. he described it as a massacre saying his entire residential building, 20 stories, is now wiped out. in that tragedy of course tearing apart communities that had already been bombed and besieged for three weeks now. we still don't know the extent, the number of people killed, because families continue to dig with bare hands into that rubble to try to find anyone, find the bodies of survivors, as i said, entire families wiped o
