there's been a big salmonella outbreak from raw chicken and it's getting worse. so far, it's sickened more than 300 people in 20 states and puerto rico and it's spreading. what do we do and how do we prepare our chicken so we don't get this? >> nothing to really panic about. 300 people over 20 states, but what we want people to know is this strain of salmonella is very resistant to antibiotics. this one doesn't respond. what happens with a lot of these infections is people get dehydrat dehydrated. they gets cramps, abdominal pain, and it's the nausea and vomiting that leads to the dehydration. make sure you drink a lot of fluid, and if it doesn't get well, take a stool sample and a culture. >> it takes days to see if you have this. >> the cdc reports over 45,000 cases a year. it's probably over 100,000. this is one of our most common sources of food poisoning. it takes two to three days before you get it, but most of the time, it goes away on its own. let me tell you what's different here. as david said, this is becoming more and more resistant. why is that? beca
