. >> and i'm sam brock. >> a fire started around 1:00 this morning near townsend avenue and today in the bay's christie smith is live in hayward. i understand that you just spoke with a neighbor? >> reporter: yes, the elderly woman who died has lived here for decades but in the last ten years she used a wheelchair to get around the home and they hadn't seen her much. the neighbor was really, really worried when she saw that this was the house on fire overnight. she came outside and saw that the street here, townsend avenue, was completely blocked by fire trucks. firefighters tell us when they arrived at 1:00 this morning, smokes and flames poured from the front doors and windows so they had to knock that down first. a couple that lived with the woman said that the wife's aunt was trapped inside. they had all been sleeping when the fire broke out. firefighters carried the woman out who was in her wheelchair but it was too late. she did not survive. one neighbor watched the towering flames and feared this outcome. >> i walked down here and looked at the officer and asked if everyone go

. >> and i'm sam brock. investigators are looking through two burned homes in san francisco this morning trying to figure out what caused them to go up in flames overnight. homes are located in the crocker amazon neighborhood, that is near interstate 280. the fire started outside of the front door of a second story home and quickly spread, engulfing a neighborhood building. four people were evacuated and are currently getting help from the red cross. and a couple other people were treated for minor injuries. investigators have not figured out how that fire started, but they do say it is suspicious. >>> developing story and disturbing new imaging -- images showing militants marching iraqi soldiers to their deaths. will the massacre force president obama to send u.s. forces into that conflict. . >> and i'm sam brock. a little girl is home safe after an overnight kidnapping, but the man accused of taking her is still on the loose. for more information, we check in with derek shore who joins us live at sunnyville police headquarters where the girl was dropped off, what did you tell us? >> reporter: well it is relieving to know that little girl is okay, but the question is where is jose valencia. this is the suspect we are talking about. look at the two people involved in this, of course the victim and the suspect. a little before 10:00 last night, sunnyville police issued an amber alert for eight-year-old helena virginia lens yas. believed she was kidnapped by him. how those two are connected, we don't know. few hours later, officers say that little girl would be dropped off here at sunnyville dps, but jose valencia is not in custody. he is 150 pounds, 5'8", and he abandoned the car he was using in that kidnapping. that alleged kidnapping, but it's thought to be driving his other car, that is a yell

i'm sam brock. >> and i'm kris sanchez. we begin with a developing story. militants are getting closer and closer to baghdad seizing another town in northwest iraq. nbc has more from irbil. >> reporter: al qaeda-linked militants advance on the northwest part of iraq. now, the latest news we're getting today is the al qaeda-linked militant group isis has taken over the city north of mosul. they say they plan on taking the fight to baghdad. they won't start their offensive until prime minister nouri al maliki steps down. >> in the last 24, 36 hours, we see that it's more them establishing emir in the area. so i think the longer they are left alone the more intense they become. >> reporter: they are fighting a war against terrorists and have launched a series of air strikes on various targets that are allegedly housing the suspected militants. it also now has called on thousand of shia men to take up arms and fight the al qaeda-linked rebels. that has a lot of people here afraid that this court could be pushed to full-blown civil war. we're beginning to see so

i'm sam brock. >> and siam kris sanchez. the flames started on lantana drive, about 90 minutes ago, just a few blocks away from lawrence expressway and the el camino real exchange. nbc bay area's michelle roberts is there with the latest. and michelle, you've watched neighbors try to save their homes, but at the very least, no one is injured at this point. >> yeah, that's the great news. so far, no injuries have been reported, although one of the homes that is currently still being engulfed in flames, they tell us that there was a dog inside that is now lost. we don't know -- hopefully the dog was able to make it out, but firefighters are doing their very best. so far, two homes are engulfed in flames, and we're told that it is contained to two blames, so it's not spreading any further. just a short time ago, we saw a man on the roof of a neighboring home with a hose, trying to stop this fire from spread to his home. we just talked to him a short time ago. he says that police officers said he would be arrested if he didn't g

sam brock is fact checking the mayor's proposal. >> there were many bones of contention today. one of the biggest is where the pot dispensaries should go and how many the city should allow. married says he is fighting to keep them away from schools and residences, his zoning plan would provide more than 600 spots for marijuana dispensaries. reed says that's a lot of shops. >> in san diego they allow 36. seattle, they allow 20. l.a. has 134. denver 102. so i don't think we're going to get 623 collectives or anywhere near that number, but we certainly have a lot of opportunities. >> now it does seem unlikely that san jose would pave the way for 600 plus collectives but under reed's plan, here's where they would go. this is a map traded by san jose staff. the green diamonds represent all the places there are current dispensaries and the dark rid areas are places where they could go. the green diamonds are squattered asquat e scattered across the city because right now there are no rules. this is a city staff here which estimates 623 available areas would be there per reed's claim.
