i'm sam brock. >> and i'm laura garcia-cannon. we begin right away with breaking news in the south bay. a building in san jose up in flames this morning. crews scrambling, they have been, overnight to put it out. >> sbob redell with what's goin on right now. bob, have crews made some progress? >> reporter: it looks like they definitely have. good morning to you, sam and laura. the building in question right beyond the fire trucks here is an abandoned office building, used to hold a dentist office and some other offices and businesses in had there. this is situated in a residential area. a lot of homes around here. you have this two-story building that attaches to a single story that caught fire around 2:20 this morning. the two ladders that were dumping water on the building shut off. that's a sign of progress. they definitely had the fire contained. unfortunately, they did have to go on the defensive pretty much after they arrived this morning about 15 minutes after they arrived because the fire was so intense and about 45 minute

i )m sam brock. >>> good monday morning. thank you so much for joining our midday newscast. i'm sam brock. on this holiday monday we start now with a deadly beginning for the morning commute. two fatal crashes within yards of each other on i-80 in san pablo. pete diablo on location where they're still trying to figure it out and a huntdown for a truck that stopped for five minutes and then drove away from the scene. nobody saw this man's license plate. >> reporter: yeah, good morning to you, sam. that's correct, this truck driver stopped momentarily before driving off, and that's all under investigation according to chp here in oakland as they are actively investigating this hit and run case that took place in the east bay. let's go ahead and show you some of that scene video from early this morning. this was the first of two deadly accidents on 80 west on el pajon drive in san pablo. a truck made a lane change, hitting a motorcycle in the process. the motorcycle lost control and was ejected from the motorcycle and was eventually pronounced dead on the scene. witnesses say t
