sam brown who apparently witnessed it all. have we found mr. brown?d if not, do we know why he's missing? >> reporter: well, i don't have any confirmation that he's been found. however, the attorneys have been in court. we did see some cables being ung, which seems to indicate they're getting ready for the lead detective to testify, at least at some point this afternoon. doesn't mean mr. brown't testify, but garcia, we expect, will. and the cables being run are to set up monitors to show the vad o videotaped statement that damon darling gave. he places himself there with an ak-47 in his hands, although he says he shot in self-defense. that's supposed to be played sometime this afternoon. the lawyers have just stepped out to look at a tape. i suspect it's yet another tape that will be played on cross-examination of the lead detective, who participated in an a & e show on "the first 48" and did an episode on this case. there are parts of the police interrogation, which is what i was just talking about, damonlidame dar darling's statement to the police.

we'll see. >> beth, what do we know of sam brown and the parameters of his testimony?ld he be so critical for the prosecution? >> well, he also sees the shooting out there. he did testify at the hearing about ten days ago. he saw three shooters, by the way. he saw definitely two black men and a lighter skinned person. you know, these -- he used the term red skin for a lighter person. and, you know, the only two people arrested here but darling and larose said there was a second assault weapon out there even though there were no spent shell casings for a second weapon, a second assault weapon but he sees the firing. i can't recall because he's been inconsistent with some of the stams whether or not he saw who initiated but places people in places with guns consistent with the witnesses that see at least parts of the shooting. >> beth, as you have mentioneda number of witnesses said three people out there, including larose and another person with a weapon. how then is the prosecution or what is the prosecution suggesting to the jurors? what are did physical facts to allo

as you mentioned, sam brown, the notes on him, he saw three suspects with guns, one of the black males an ak-47, he saw only one ak and one hand gun but also said he saw one dark-skinned and two red-skinned people. so real quickly, beth, because i want to get to robi ludwig on this as well, that's the kind of testimony that could help the defendant. that's not the kind of testimony you would think if he's going to say there were three people, that the defendant would not want to be up there on the stand. for instance, not threatened in any way, testimony of that person. isn't that helpful to the defense in some way? >> reporter: there's no way having a third shooter there plays into damon darling and his statement he gave the police was that his friend handed him a chopper, an ak, and also had one himself. he is also expected to testify although maybe not today. we may hear the videotaped statement that darling gave the police when he was arrested later today. but yes, as with witnesses, it's often the case that the defense can get something helpful to them from a witness, especially i

joining me now to talk about this, we welcome back sam unanimo thompson, somer's father. and also pat brown, criminal profiler. samuel, let me start with you. i know in having lost family members myself, it's those days after that get difficult. i want to start on a human level here. yesterday you celebrate little somer's life. there's people around you. is today more difficult? you know, have you really come to realize that she is gone? >> yes. you know, at first you're in shock, and then as time progresses on, you know, it really starts to set in how heavy the loss of somer is, and, yeah, it gets harder every minute. especially until we catch this guy. >> samuel, let's talk about that. are you focusing now on that, just the -- just finding who did this? and what are police telling you at this point? >> well, the police aren't saying all lot right now becaus they have to keep all of their evidence under wraps right now. whoever's out there, they don't want them to have the information that they know. so right now, you know, i have to just focus on -- on the hopes and prayers that we catch
