(sheila) they're working 24/7 to get the job done. they work 12-hour shifts... 7 a-m to 7 p-m... and then 7 p-m to 7 a-m. there are almost 50 pieces of snow equipment in the sioux city streets department, with 18 of those being the spreader trucks. they drop salt, and sand... and have blades to plow those streets. they're the ones first on the streets and last on the streets. the sioux city streets "they're out there on the nights, they're out there on the weekends, they're out there on the holidays- me away from their f fily and friends and events so o think highly of them," said sioux city streets superintendent, ed pickens. he says teamwork is big for their department. the driver we followed, today, has plowed sioux city's streets for 5-years. so, this isn't his first winter storm. sam, how are some companies doing that? robert, they're using compressed natural gas in since it's domestically produced, it can be sold at a lower rate. and options to get it are slowly expanding as the eighth public pump in iowa had it's ribbon-cutting today. cost: fuel," said scott meerdink. for the past year and meerdink has done. once he converted the trucks in his companies fleet to compressed natural gas opposed to diesel. "it'll keep our trucking company competitive long-term," said scott meerdink. competitive-- because he saves per gallon. "it offers a more consistently lower priced fuel, especially for companies that own a number of vehicles," said stephanie weisenbach. and drives quite a number of miles like his trucks do, delivering grain and feed ingredients. the shell gas station in sioux center he's filling up at is the first in northwest iowa. "now in this part of the state, the answer to that question is that they do have somewhere to refuel," said stephanie weisenbach. meerdink even converted his personal truck.
