many questions out there for them to answer and part of it is what is going on in many of these states, so, sam, another record day for texas. now the governor has pushed the pause button on reopening. what is the situation like there on the ground today? >> reporter: there is no question, chris, good morning, that the biggest development on the ground, the biggest point of concern right now is the icu bed base capacity hitting 100% in the houston area. there is a caveat to that. the president and ceo of houston methodist, one of the largest providers here in this area, came out yesterday and said we looked at our icu capacity numbers last year at this time in june, before the pandemic, and it was 95%. so they are accustomed, he said, to working in and around that level of capacity. the problem is one out of every four and really closer to one out of every three icu bed patients has covid-19 and the numbers in texas are eye popping on a daily basis. yesterday, the state announcing almost exactly 6,000 new cases in a single day. i had the opportunity to speak with houston's mayor sylvester turne
