sammy davis j.r. when i was little growing up in the 60s there was not very many blacks on tv on sammy davis j.r. was a figure who was. my mother and my grandmother who raised me they would call me in the house and say, sammy davis j.r. is on tv, and so that -- he meant something to them, and so i just sort of told myself it would be interesting to write a book about sammy davis j.r some day. these are figures who happened to have a lot of scan dpal in -- scale dale in their lives and they were burdened with scandal and sugar ray robinson, i told you at the beginning about the punch that i took that i'm still feeling, so i wrote this book to figure out where that punch came from. thank you very much.
