the suspect is samuel j. cassidy. a house fire was set shortly before the shootings not too far away from the vta railyard. laura anthony joins us live with more on what we have learned at the home. >> reporter: hi kristin. we have heard a lot in the last few minutes. got some chilling video from a neighbor. that is the video of the suspect leaving his home casually just after 6:30 in the morning. we think this video was shot. it is surveillance video from this neighbor. it shows this man leaving his home casually with a duffel bag, putting the duffel bag in his truck, driving away as if he were heading off to work. then it later, this neighbor gave us a separate piece of video he took from his cell phone as he was leaving this morning. that shows this home across the street fully engulfed in flames. we think the cell phone video came. there is confusion but the cell phone video was shot maybe a few minutes after the surveillance video that showed the man living in the house believed to be sam cassidy casually leaving

witness accounts are painting a picture of samuel j. cassidy as an angry loner. >> he has been described to me as being a disgruntled employee. he didn't like anybody and nobody liked him. >> reporter: smith said samuel j. cassidy fired shots killing nine people before taking his own life. smith said he carried more firepower than investigators first thought. >> there were three handguns located where he killed himself . located in his duffel bag or backpack and in the surrounding areas we found a total of 32 magazines. these were 9 mm. >> reporter: before the shooting, the sheriff said there was a brief exchange with a union representative who came by the railyard for a visit. >> the suspect talked to the union person and said i am not going to shoot you over its to that effect and started shooting other people. >> none of our family members from vta -- on the extended family didn't deserve this punishment. >> reporter: employees pay tribute to their fallen coworkers. >> i was at the family assistance center and i saw the aftermath and i saw t

. >> the one name we do know, samuel j. cassidy is the suspected shooter. the inspection continues for explosives, weapons and any evidence about why he left his home, went to work and started shooting. a neighbor's surveillance video captured his departure as well as the fire that erupted at the house moments later. >> that home is just 11 miles from the site of the shooting on w. younger ave. as you can see on the map. we have live team coverage at those locations, the crime scene and the suspects house. with laura anthony and chris nguyen. leah melendez is also live from the family assistance center which has been set up at the red cross. >> first, we want to hear from abc7 news live reporter dan noyes. late today the suspect's former girlfriend came to abc7 and spoke to dan. dan is live with her story which is not 6:00. >> the woman who does not want to be identified at a court case against sam cassidy in 2009 claiming he threatens her and sexually assaulted her. >> i feel so bad for the people that got killed. i really felt bad about the people who die
