we need to do a lot in san francisco to encourage young people and young families to stay in san francisco. i think we are missing out on a lot of our diversity when young families leave our city. we need to do all we can to be mindful of the needs of young families in the city. we mentioned housing. schools are a big deal. but also being able to be flexible with transportation and children. >> what is happening with crime in your district? give me your thoughts on how you think the police are doing with respect to crime in your district? >> i think we are very fortunate in district two. we have a number of great police captains that oversee the stations that touched district two. richmond and northern are the two major police stations that touched the district. we do have a lot of crime in district 2. both crimes against individuals but also against merchants along our merchant corridors. chestnut. union in particular has been hit. fillmore and sacramento. it is a big deal. we also have the break-ins. we need to be very mindful that people keep their iphones and laptops out of sight. but

we're based here in san francisco. and as the president of this association with over 400 businesses, i'll offer three reasons why the business community supports this initiative. first of all, this ordinance brings to light a real disparity between what you pay for and what you get with the yellow pages. an ad in the phone book would be distributed to about a million recipients and if every single business and person actually collected the book, it's estimated only 38% or about 370,000 people and businesses actually use the yellow pages. so with the current model i'm paying for exposure to almost 1 million recipients but only getting exposure to 370,000. so if by distributing the books in quantities that were more accurately representing the real population of phone book usersers, this would enforce more honesty in the real estate being paid for. secondly, the cost benefits of this ordinance would be done without negative impact on business's ability to advertise. the yellow page is one of the least targeted forms of

francisco valley transportation authority, san, mateo, and sfrkt. they have had to pass that on to cal tran. cal tran depends on those three agencies' contributions for more than 35% of its operating budget. as an aside, you are aware that the authority contribute capital money to cal tran through prop k, but not operating money. a couple of advocacy grooms have formed around this issue. there is a group called the friends of cal tran that has organized several meetings. it is headed by the former mayor of palo alto. and another group has been active trying to address this issue. there was a meeting in january of that group that i know commissioner elsbernd attended, and several of my staff as well to try to onlyize the options for dealing with this. it is a serious issue. it is a serious mobility issue, and a serious air quality issue potentially for the peninsula and san francisco, and we will continue to track it and be involved in it, looking to structure a policy-level solution. not just a band aid for this year, but something that can help us

it's in san francisco. there was a problem last night where a freeway sign was hanging very low over the freeway. they've got the north 101 connector to north 280 shut down until about 7:45 this morning. caltrain is in the process of putting up signs because earlier unfortunately they didn't have enough signs so when you think you're going to take the north 280 connector, you're forced on southbound 280 and that's what happened to kristen. as a detour you may want to consider north 10 staying all the way on 101 heading towards downtown san francisco. that will be out there for the next few hours. in addition to that we've got a lot of ponding reporting, flooding, especially near the oakland maze. the oakland maze we have another connection ramp closed. this is westbound 80 coming out of berkeley and emeryville. that connection ramp is completely shut down. they have one lane open though connecting to 580 and they are allowing big rigs on 580 at this point. and, mike, when is this wet weather gonna end? >> t

we have 450 projects throughout san francisco. we have incentivized wisely over the counter permits so people can navigate the bureaucracy, a $98 fee, flat fee. we are developing projects in this city with minimum requirements for lead building standards. in fact we have a proposal that i will be presenting in front of our san francisco board of supervisors that says you want to build a commercial structure in excess of 50,000 square feet, you've got to provide minimum lead standards of construction. the reason we are doing that is we create an incentive a year ago to do that and everybody in order to get ahead of the queue in terms of the planning process is jumping in saying that's a no brainer of us because time matters more than anything else. so we are going to require it as a base line for doing business in the city and county of san francisco. that follows what we had already done and that is say we're going to spend the taxpayers money, we have got to provide those lead standards in terms of our libraries, reconstructing o

this is about so much more than san francisco and an event. i traveled to sacramento last saturday to speak to the planning conservation leak in the state conference. there were hundreds there to talk about the america's cup process. they see this -- it is interesting to hear the perspective of environmental leaders and elected officials who affiliate intimately with the environmental community from california. they see this event in san francisco as a one and only kind of the event that they want to assign a brand, maybe this will be, a kind of dream event. carbon neutral, perhaps carbon negative, perhaps a zero waste, something they would love to have the super bowl subscribed to, or the olympics, or world cup soccer. that level of thinking is not really mainstream. it really does not happen. they have elevated the expectation that san francisco will put that kind of caliber of green credential into this event. i responded to them that the ceqa process is going to require groups like psl to be right at the table with us, holding us and oblig
