we serve nearly 100,000 students in san francisco and are a tremendous resource, we think, for san francisco. the last couple years the state budget cuts we faced, $53 million in the last 3 years alone, have really made it a challenge for us to keep our doors open for san francisco students and this proposition a would make a tremendous difference in addressing our fiscal problems right now. >> understood. thank you. starchild, can you present some of the thoughts around the opposition? >> sure. we all believe in people getting an education and having those opportunities be affordable and accessible to them, but city college's financial problems, we believe, are not due to state budget cuts primarily but due to fiscal mismanagement. the accreditation report that came out recently found city college to be one of the 3 worst-performing schools in the 112 community colleges in california and as evidenced by the $276,000 salary of the head of city college, we blaefrb there's plenty of money they can find without going to the taxpayers. >> i understand there were 700 classes, a reduction in 700 c

of san francisco. government has grown so much in recent years and now we're in the middle of an economic downturn when people are hurting. thousands of individual san franciscoans, businesses, have had their budgets cut. they have lost jobs over the past decade. they have lost more revenue than the 30 million city hall has because city hall has taken more than that amount from the people and businesses of san francisco. unfortunately it's complicated to try to get them to tell their individual stories, it dosment tell about all the individual families and people that have had their budgets cut. any measure that takes more money from the people is a bad thing. this particular measure, it recognizes that going after the smallest employers is bad, you know, but most businesses in san francisco are small employers and why penalize them for growing and being successful? you know, if they start to get more -- i disagree that it's tax on profits because gross receipts is not necessarily profits, profits is a

it said "san francisco, the happiest place on earth". and we're a happy place today because we see what a team can do in a two way love affair to bring a city and a team together as one. i remember when flying back from detroit on monday as the city flew over the beautiful city in the bay area we all in the giants family wish we could go door to door to blow kirbs to every one of you to return the unconditional love you provided us selling out all 89 home games and all the wonderful fanses, and i see some of you that traveled withed team, road warriors to make road games feel like home games. you inspired us. we know you filled this plaza on sunday when we were in detroit. we know you cheer friday your couches at home, from your neighborhood street parties and then throughout october with the city we lit up the city. it was a washid orange from coit tower to the ferry building to right here at city hall. what can we take away from our 2012 giants? i believe we can take away life lessons. vuch teachable moments for our children and our te
