the san andreas fault we hear about a lot because it stretches over 800 miles in california. it's all about the north american and pacific plate colliding and moving. on the san andreas fault it is locked down in many places so when the pressure is released, it often is in larger earthquakes. with the hayward fault, the key difference in this zone is the fact that it creeps throughout the year a few millimeters every single year resulting in quite a bit more tiny earthquakes right throughout the hayward fault. and here is the reason why we could have stronger activity back across the east bay. we may actually have what's called a super quake because they're finding that the hayward, rogers creek and also the calaveras fault are all linked together. you get a quake along the hayward fault that's 6.7, it could be amplified to a 7.3 if it begins to interact with the other faults. so while the san andreas fault is big, we cannot ignore all the activity that could happen across the east bay. >> thank you very much jeff. that's why it pays to be prepared. if you feel an earthquake
