, you can drive four hours between san antonio and the texas-mexico border and not be able to get a medical degree. you can't get a law degree anywhere between san antonio and the texas-mexico border. and there are only a handful of ph.d. programs. so when i speak of the missing pieces, literally, of the infrastructure of opportunity to me the texas valley is one example of that. i know many folks like congressman hinojosa, others are working very hard to change those things but they have -- those changes have been slow in coming. but i will also point out with regard to the infrastructure of transportation which is part of the infrastructure of opportunity, that is also missing. so for example, when you try to drive, my thian cey is from a small town -- my fiancee is from a smalltown right near the texas-mexico border. you drive from san antonio down to the valley, drive those four hours and there's no continuous interstate highway you can take without stopping in town after town. so you can imagine what that means to a traveler, but even more

san antonio and detroit face the same issues. what are you doing to keep your economy so healthy? >> well, san antonio like other texaslas, houston, has been growing tremendously. that has helped. but for san antonio, part of the story is also that its economy is very well diversified and the local economy is anchored in sectors that have been growing compared to other sectors even during this recession, like health care and education. we have a very young city. we have a city that has more than 110,000 students enrolled in college and graduate school. and like the military, we have fort sam houston that has grown tremendously and a couple other military bases. so san antonio in the private sector and in the public sector has been doing well all things considered and it's also been well managed and that's why we've been able to achieve that kind of bond rating. >> indeed. you guys also have the benefit of being a wonderful tourist destination with that charming city and the riverwalk. >> that's true. >> beautiful. >> we had a river walk and the alamo. sure. >> steven rattner who oversaw the government bailout of the a
