we can confirm ten gunshot victims with being treated at san antonio university hospital. victims were sent to another university hospital. the victims are also including a child. the fbi and atf are both responding. to thinking about the scope of this, 25 people dead, including children. just making this even more tragic than we already know that it is. the motive and the identity of the suspect, so far, unknown. we want to bring back malcolm nance with us the last few hours covering the developing story out of texas. malcolm, just to bring people up-to-date just joining us and turning on their televisions and hearing about the tragic situation in texas, where does the investigation go from here? >> well, right now as you can see, quite possibly, the gunman himself is dead. according to local authorities. and they are going to be, essentially, tearing his world apart. they will start right there as cliff van zandt said earlier, they will go through his wallet, find out who he is, where he's from and send teams up to his house. they're going to have a search warrant execut

katie beck is live outside san antonio university hospital where she joins me from now. katie? >> reporter: ali, so many family members clinging to hope this morning as those shooting victims remain hospitalized. trauma teams through the night here have been trying to save those victims. sadly, we learned this morning that one of them was unable to be saved. a child died here at the hospital last night. as for the current numbers and the hospitalized victims, we know there are five still hospitalized here in either serious or critical condition. and three of those five are children. you mentioned that the youngest child involved in the shooting was 5 years old. we know ryland ward was transported here last night after being shot five times. taken into emergency surgery. his family has told us this morning that he was in stable condition, but later told us he was headed back to surgery. so obviously, these family members just holding on to hope and clinging to their faith that these victims will make it through. we also know that the hospital is currently conducting a blood drive

katie beckwith me now from university hospital in san antonio with the latest on the victims. katie, what more do we know about the status of the patients? you've got 5-year-old rye land ward shot multiple times. many other members of his family dead. >> reporter: that's right, andrea. so many of these families are grieving. there are still many clinging to hope hoping that they are going to have a recovery, a miracle something happen inside this hospital over the next few hours. there are six patients, six shooting victims that remain here at university hospital. three of them are children. and one of them as you said is ryland ward, the 5-year-old shot five times in that church, rushed here to the hospital last night and given emergency surgery. his grandmother reported this morning that he was in stable condition but that was before he went into his second surgery. so we know a lot of people here are praying for those children as theys are fragile at this time and the trauma surgeons have been working throughout the night to try and save them. we learn this had morning one

nbc's katie beck is in front of the university hospital in san antonio.spoke yesterday, people were there praying, holding on. where are they now? >> well, i think there's still a lot of hope out there, hoping and clinging and praying to the fact that there could be a miracle, there could be a recovery for the loved ones that are still in the hospital. this morning, we learned that since yesterday three more of those patients have been discharged. so right now that number stands at 12 shooting victims that are still in area hospitals. several of them are children and their conditions range from serious to critical. one in stable condition this morning. yesterday, we heard from trauma surgeons who were telling us just how rigorous and thorough they were being to try and attend to all these shooting victims as they came into the hospital on sunday. chief surgeon here at the hospital told me typically they have three operating rooms operational and when this incident occurred within 45 minutes they had 14 operating rooms operational. so the effort to try and
